Nick Soudnick - Akhe Music Vol. 5 Faust 3 CD (Ultra)-----------------------------------------------
- Detailed list of additions -
Mattias Frisk - Ett Liv I Vantan Pa Doden (Self-released)
Second
part of what is announced as a trilogy of releases by Swedish artist
Mattias Frisk, whose eerie and colorful paintings and collages are just
as attention-worthy as his musical output.
Exploring the themes of "time, death and apathy", this second chapter
shifts to slower and more dispiriting sounds, with gloomy piano
melodies and ghostly drones pierced by brittle noise shards. Solemn and
somber like it should be, this definitely comes highly recommended.
Packaged like the first volume in an envelope with a hand-written
letter in Swedish.
(CD-R in envelope, $10.00)
Urna - Liber Lelle (Abgurd)
New 2008 release from
long-active Italian artist Gianluca Martucci, with a number of past
releases on Slaughter Productions. Gradually stepping away from its
dank death industrial origins towards more ritualistic and luminous
sounds over the years, Urna's new work further confirms this evolution
with its compositions of serene acoustic ambient. Bells, cymbals,
percussion, mandolin, balalaika, zither, accordion and flutes are woven
together into a lustrous tapestry of sound dedicated to the life and
death of Angela da Foligno, a Christian author, nun, and mystic. This
could easily be a White Magic audio counterpart to Endura's "Black
Eden".
(CD-R, plastic case, $13.00)
Neuntoter der Plage - The White Ashen (Abgurd)
Re-release
of the long sold-out tape originally issued on Ryan Opperman's own
Skeletone label. Three long tracks of poisonous death drones and
demonic howlings.
(CD-R, oversized sleeve with netted fiber cover, $13.00)
Isolrubin BK - Crash Injury Trauma (Soleilmoon)
Lustmord
side-project themed on car crashes and their consequences. Between
Terror Against Terror's clinical electro and Lustmord's brooding
ambient works. Released back in 1993, and long sold out and out of
print. Only one spare copy, in as new condition.
(CD, jewel case, $25.00, last copy)
Oxyd meets Sumad - Mysterious Places Of Dead Souls (Ars Benevola Mater)
Ethereal
ambient from Slovakia with a somewhat baroque touch to it. Spacious
drones are layered with melodic instrumentation and sparse processed
vocal samples. Somewhere between Bisclaveret, Tabor Radosti and some
CMI acts.
(CD, oversized cardboard sleeve, $17.00)
O Paradis - Pequenas Canciones De Amor (Tourette)
New
2008 release from our favorite Catalonian troubadour, with a somewhat
more light-hearted and poppy spirit than "Cuando El Tiempo Sopla". Pure
Mediterranean sunshine. Also features a cover of Bob Dylan's "It Ain't
Me, Babe".
(CD, digipak, $20.00)
Nikita Golyshev - Solaris (Monochrome Vision)
Debut
CD album from Nikita Golyshev, a Moscow artist also known for his many
mp3 releases as CD-R. "Solaris" comes in the shape of two long deep
ambient pieces with perpetually expanding drones and minimal melodic
tones. These tracks were partially presented at the Add Noise II
festival on May 15th, 2007.
(CD, jewel case, $16.00)
Various Artists - Roulette Russe pour un peu de Caviar (Monochrome Vision)
A
compilation of exclusive tracks by Russian artists, intended for
presentation at the 2007 "Bruit de la neige" festival by Studio Forum
(Annecy, France). Both established acts and newcomers are represented
here, covering the fields of electro-acoustic, abstract electronic
music, drone ambient and noise collages. Features Kolpakopf,
Bardoseneticcube, Exit In Grey, Cisfinitum, Instant Movie Combinations,
Hum, CD-R, Interior Disposition, Alexei Borisov, Kryptogen Rundfunk,
Moscow Laptop Orchestra and Noises Of Russia.
(CD, jewel case, $16.00)
Various Artists - We're Punch Addicted (Punch Records)
18
exclusive tracks from the established Punch roster and a host of
newcomers with a similar taste for the eclectic. Features tracks from
Ait!, Erik Ursich, O Paradis, Comando Suzie, Nina Belief, The Plague
Year of Audioscope, J.G. Cabargas & Los Inmortales, Pierre Normal,
Ronin, Manasyt, Merging of the Self, Divine Muzak, Thomas Nola et son
Orchestre, Mushroom's Patience, 1997EV, Terroritmo, Luftwaffe and Smrt
I Cekic.
(CD, clear jewel case, $18.00)
O Paradis - Las Nubes que Mueren (Punch Records)
2CD
compilation of previously abandoned and unreleased tracks and demos
from past recording sessions. While this sort of exercise usually
gathers leftovers that prove only interesting to completists, O
Paradis' level of work makes this collection a release that can
definitely stand on its own merit.
(2CD, digipak, $23.00)
Jazkamer - Balls The Size Of Texas, Liver The Size Of Brazil (Purple Soil)
While
the prolific duo of John Hegre and Lasse Marhaug is mostly known for
its taxing brand of harsh noise and glitch-happy deconstructions, this
2007 release on Czech label Purple Soil proves to be much more affable
than their past works would have suggested. Sure, there is an
electronic storm of a piece somewhere on here that's guaranteed to have
you jumping for the volume knob, and the first track is basically
little more than an old medical report apparently found on vinyl, but
the real attraction here is to be found on the tracks which rely on a
strangely western-tinged blend of guitar noise. The drawn-out squalls
and piercing feedback become sorrowful ballads for desert sunrises and
midnight prairies, the sort better seen when the whiskey kicks in. In
those moments of grace, everything else just fades away.
(CD, multi-paneled booklet, $16.00)
Svasti-Ayanam - Sanklesa (Eternal Pride)
Label info:
"Svasti-ayanam is Peter Andersson's foray into dark, Tibetan-Nepalese
ambience. Andersson is well known for his work as Raison D'etre,
Atomine Elektrine etc. In this incarnation, his signature Raison D'etre
sound has been modified in an incredibly pronounced, and effective way.
Sanklesa is marked by strong tribal rhythms that draw the listener into
distant, foreign, ritual soundscapes. Andersson has released a prolific
catalogue of music, that includes many CD's, limited vinyl and
countless compilation appearances. Album includes 2 exclusive
bonus-tracks."
(CD, digipak, $20.00)
Nordvargr - Helvete (Eternal Pride)
Label info:
"The newest creation from Villa Bohult, the Nordvargr family burial
vault. This time the "cursed poet" Wrest from the USBM Leviathan Cult
and Drakhon (Beyond Sensory Experience, MZ.412) have joined the night
sessions of the never sleeping Swedish zombie.
It would be totally insane to be waiting for something life-asserting,
light and positive from the three of them. "Helvete" is just the
overwhelming Darkness and the ice-cold all-filling Terror. Meditative
and sinister Dark Ambient rhythms are filled with the ominous whisper
of Wrest and Drakh. Deep and lengthy drones as well as the charming
atmosphere of the Swedish industrial decadence.
At the end of this trip all of those nostalgic for the times of the
"Burning The Temple Of God" MZ.412 will be fully rewarded for all the
years of waiting..."
(CD, digipak, $20.00)
STROM.ec - Manual of Diagnosis (Neuroscan.org)
Label info:
"Listen to the sounds of torment from a lobotomized nervous system and
spasms of hallucinatory madness. STROM.ec is back with a painful pure
industrial experience from rhythmless, smoking, burning, nauseating
ambiances to vibrant cosmic pulsations which either unite with God or
the worst nightmare of schizophrenia. Never afraid to take one
progressive step further, STROM.ec has progressed from power
electronics to a para-psychological frenzy of influences and alternate
states of mind that border on the clinically deranged. Definitely not
easy-listening music but the added depth of production and audio
technology is sure to tune your subconscious to become one with
STROM.ec's extreme, damned and perverted sensory suggestion. "The
Manual Diagnosis" is conceived as a concept album on surgical lobotomy."
(CD, DVD case with insert, $15.50)
Cloama & Blutleuchte - From Wasteland Mausoleums (New Old Sentinel)
Stunning
collaboration release between those two Finnish projects. Cloama's
lurch towards more experimental sounds from its power electronics /
noise beginnings is further emphasized by Die Blutleuchte's
contributions, and this release effortlessly shifts from
post-apocalyptic mantras to doom jazz dirges, with distorted guitar
melodies and bleak atmospheres thrown in between. Scrapyard shamanism
at its best. On a side-note, be sure to also look into Die
Blutleuchte's "Rus", a sonic overview of Russian military history.
(CD, clear jewel case with UV-coated 8-page booklet, $15.50)
