Maeror Tri - Multiple Personality Disorder CD (Purple Soil)

-----------------------------------------------

- Detailed list of additions -

Survival Unit - Fentanyl Martyrs (Autarkeia)
Final studio release from post-mortem / power electronics purveyor Survival Unit, based in Sundsvall, Sweden. Focalizing its attention on the blood-soaked events of the Chechnyan war, "Fentanyl Martyrs" takes you to one of the world's most annihilated conflict zones for the grand tour. Guerrilla warfare, mass graves and merciless tactics are some of the offerings on this soot-covered battlefield and its related theaters, as conveyed by pilfered radio communications, crude and relentless noise and barked sermons of dehumanization. A gruesome assessment that now serves as a fitting epitaph to the conflict's "official" end as of April 2009.
(2CD, double digipak in embossed boxed set with booklet, $37.00)

Survival Unit - Tied Down For Survival (Autarkeia)
Second volume of retrospective material from Sweden's Survival Unit. Even dead, its corpse lunges again at this world with this collection of violent declamations, rambling conspiracies and ideological firebombs. The selections gathered here sustain an exhausting atmosphere of struggle and confusion, one that perfectly matches the current global context. The noisy assaults are tempered by a sense of doom and futility on tracks such as "Barbed Wire and Barbiturates" and "No Gold, Only Stones", showing hints of the pharmacological power electronics of the yet unborn Alfarmania.
(CD, digipak, $18.50)

Survival Unit - Murder For The Mission (Autarkeia)
First part of the Survival Unit retrospective releases on Autarkeia. This one includes material from the tape of the same name on Vemod, along with edited recordings from the live action in Paris at Therapie Auditive and finally the "Utan Fana" tracks. Toxic, lo-fi power electronics brimming with hatred for the modern world, right up there with "Fentanyl Martyrs" in terms of crude ferocity. The rats are coming! The werewolves are here!
(CD, multi-paneled digipak, $18.50)

Land:Fire - Shortwave Transmission (Power & Steel)
Follow-up album to 2004's "Physical : Mental : Psychological" released on Tesco Organisation, this new album from Herbst9's more technologically oriented twin project provides the perfect soundtrack to the military industrial complex with its array of menacing rhythms, electromagnetic waves, radio communications and glowing harmonic drones. Think of Bad Sector's "The Harrow" but as engineered and constructed by defense contractors. Reliably stunning work.
(CD, 6 panel digipak, $19.00)

Contrastate - Todesmelodie (Noise Museum)
Sixth and final studio album by this sadly defunct UK duo. Inspired by the book "The Mysteries of Algiers" written by Robert Irwin and the 1965 film "The Battle of Algiers", "Todesmelodie" presents itself as a rumination on revolution and political strife in the shape of 4 long montages of electronic and acoustic instrumentation, found sounds and harmonic drones that culminate with "The Suitcase or the Coffin", named so after one of the slogans of the Algerian nationalists during the drive for independence. Haunting, desolate and demanding, this album initially provoked an unexpected sense of anxiety when I first heard it many years ago, enough in fact that it wasn't until I had later become accustomed to Contrastate's other works that I came to appreciate it for its uneasy nature.
(CD, jewel case, $15.00)

The Giallos Flame - The Giallos Flame (Baphomet Records)
Ignore the awfully drawn cover artwork, the Giallos Flame is the essential modern-day heir to the jazzy prog rock of Goblin and the synth-heavy Fabio Frizzi soundtracks that made their mark on so many Italian horror soundtracks of the late 70's. Sleazy, funky and and just so remarkably efficient at capturing that certain vibe.
(CD, jewel case, $11.00)

Gnaw Their Tongues - All The Dread Magnificence Of Perversity (Crucial Blast)
2009 album from this Dutch project, staying faithful to its black/doom metal meets horror movie symphonic score in hell sound. Compared to "An Epiphanic Vomiting of Blood", the 9 tracks here can be both more chaotic and dense with heavy drums, strained shrieks and agitated strings rising from the sludge (the poetically titled opening track "My Orifices Await Ravaging" being a perfect example), and yet more controlled at others when they are wielded with orchestral precision, such as on the demonic dirge "L'Ange Qui Annonce La Fin Du Temps". Dreadful, infernal fanfare for wretched times.
(CD, digisleeve with booklet, $11.00)

Gnaw Their Tongues - An Epiphanic Vomiting Of Blood (Crucial Blast)
CD re-issue of the 2007 LP with one extra track. For those of you not yet familiar with Gnaw Their Tongues, take the OTT aesthetic / vocal stylings of black metal, give them a lurching doom metal pacing and poison them with a thick layer of noise and symphonic horror movie score. Cataclysmic and utterly noxious, like a "Burning The Temple Of God"-era MZ.412 on benzodiazepines crossed over with Neutöter Der Plage while "The Omen" plays on a flickering television in the background.
(CD, digisleeve, $11.00)

Telepherique - Zivilisatose (Diophantine Discs)
Final release from this long-active and highly prolific German trio, marking 20 years of activity with material released on such labels as Ant-Zen, Noise Museum and SSSM among others.
"Zivilisatose" covers a number of the genres explored by Telepherique over the years, swerving from noisy constructed rhythms to more minimal crystalline electro tones with bizarre samples that bring to mind some of their more recent collaborations releases with Contagious Orgasm.
(CD, silk-screened wallet packaging, $11.00)

Sil Muir - Sil Muir (Diophantine Discs)
Sil Muir is the collaboration between Italian ambient artists Andrea Marutti (who runs Afe Records and is also active as Amon and Never Known) and Andrea Ferraris (Ur). Their first album together provides us with four long tracks of deep and mellow drones ideal for drowsy late-night listening.
(CD, silk-screened wallet packaging, $11.00)

Hypnoz - Breath of Earth (Zhelezobeton)
2nd full-length CD from this project that dwells in the same Moscow suburb of Fryazino which brought you Hum and Staruha Mha. With help from Evgeny Voronovsky of Cisfinitum and an arsenal of vintage Russian analogue synthesizers, Dmitry Zubov creates the sort of hazy, ethereal atmospheres propelled by cyclical rhythms that wouldn't be out of place next to some Tangerine Dream tracks or the earlier and more sedated Deutsch Nepal pieces. Mellow yet compelling ambient that soothes the mind.
(CD, digisleeve, $14.00)

Aidan Baker & The Infant Cycle - Rural Sprawl (Zhelezobeton)
Label info: "Canadian musicians Aidan Baker and Jim DeJong (aka The Infant Cycle) have used the "gentleman's kit" of modern experimenters for creating the compositions of this disk: guitar, bass, tapes, samples, feedback generator and thumb piano. The four album tracks correspond with the four seasons, the four states of the soul...
[...]
The first two tracks were recorded in 2001 (and released on CD-R by the Italian label Blade Records in 2002 in a very limited edition), two others were recorded in 2005 and thus completed the natural cycle of this album."
(pro-printed CD-R and cardboard sleeve, $11.00)

Cyclotimia - Music For Stockmarkets (Zhelezobeton)
I'll stick to the press release for this one because it perfectly captures everything that needs to be said about the CD. More relevant now than ever.
Label info: Cyclotimia is most probably the only project in the world which has chosen the creation of a soundtrack to "globalization" and life in the "consumer society" as their concept. The project members more than anyone else are immersed into the magic of finance and their creative intuition allowed them to compose the main part of "Music for Stockmarkets" with its unforgivingly precise name "Wall Street Requiem". Today the whole civilized world is listening to this requiem, the first cords of which were played in Wall Street itself.
The "Music for Stockmarkets" album with its radically experimental nature stands out in the extensive discography of this Moscow project. The 64-minute album includes 32 tracks divided into three conceptual parts: "Wallstreet Requiem" (25 minutes, recorded in 2004-2007), "Trivial Pleasures" (26 minutes, recorded in 2002, this part was the only one released as a separate CD in 2003) and "Financial Glossary" (13 minutes, recorded in 2003).
The material itself is nothing like the one heard in the previous records of Cyclotimia. There are no apocalyptic soundscapes of "Wasteland" times, no cybernetic hi-tech and media madness of "E$chaton", no cosmic downtempo of "Celestis: Space Ceremonial Music"... Minimalism, academic sterility, surgical accuracy and meditative ataraxia prevail on "Music for Stockmarkets". Then again it is not the familiar "IDM", "glitch", "noise", "clicks and cuts" and not "minimal techno"... The sound of the album is crystal-clear and warm at the same time. "Vintage" lovers have a wonderful chance to listen to the masterpieces of Soviet music production (such as Rhythm 1, Rhythm 2, Aelita, Formanta UDS, Formanta EMS-01, Polyvox) in pure sound, unprocessed by effects.
(CD, digipak, $14.00)

Inade - The Incarnation Of The Solar Architects (Loki Foundation)
With their 5th full-length album, Inade have reached a new threshold in their synthesis of the esoteric and the cosmic. Easily one of their most accomplished releases of recent memory, "The Incarnation of the Solar Architects" is a compass to the transcendental nature of the universe, the world that towers above ours. The sheer vastness of the soundscapes captures the primordial dread that comes with this awareness, no matter how jaded one may think himself to be. Forget "dark", this is aeonian ambient of the highest stature.
(CD, 6-panel digipak, $18.00)

Bad Sector - CMASA (Power & Steel)
New 2009 album that reworks material originally composed in 2005 for the M3M art exhibition in Pisa, Italy. The exhibition in question being based around images of the seaside and rivers of the Pisana area and the CMASA airplane factory located there, those themes carry over into the compositions through subtle sounds of the seashore, rushing water and sparse metal clanging.
With that context in mind, this is some of Massimo Magrini's most emotional work as his unique digital textures take a particularly melodic character here, which is further reinforced by the beautifully lush synth pads. Vital in every sense of the word.
(CD, digipak, $18.00)

S.E.T.I. - Corona (Power & Steel)
Fifth album from Andrew Lagowski's deep space exploration project, S.E.T.I. Active since 1982, Lagowski has notably collaborated with Lustmord on one-off projects such as Terror Against Terror and Isolrubin BK, and his own solo work includes material released as Legion and under his own name.
Of all his albums as S.E.T.I., 1994's "Knowledge" has always been a personal top pick, and remains even today among the best sonic attempts at evoking the vastness of the cosmos (and for $4 at Soleilmoon, there is really no reason why you shouldn't pick up a copy right now). "Corona" is the rightful follow-up to it, as it reuses and improves on a lot of the same elements: deep cosmic drones, sputtering digital oscillations, NASA recordings, cut-up radio broadcasts and harmonic waves are all forged together into a richly-detailed 52-min journey to the beyond. Ad Astra!
(CD, clear jewel case, $18.00)

Internal Fusion - Tribute To Hastia (Lucioleditions)
With a sparse discography on Desaccord Majeur, Staalplaat and various Taalem-related labels, Internal Fusion has become mostly known for its sound somewhere between Rapoon and Muslimgauze, with various sorts of percussions providing a rhythmical backdrop to most of its work. This new release however definitely moves away from that area and towards minimalist dark ambient, with deep low-end pulses and restrained drones becoming the main driving force for the 6 long tracks gathered here. That said, they're composed with enough imagination and grace so as to remain worthy of attention and not an exercise in reverb-drenched nothingness. Quality stuff.
(CD, transparent slim DVD case, $16.00)

Subliminal - Look At The Creation (Galakthorro)
It's been already 3 years since Subliminal last released "Coping", but at least we now have the 4 tracks on this 7" to follow up on that. Raw, poisonous power electronics with Albert Fisch's signature mangled vocals. One copy per buyer and only available if bought with a Galakthorro CD.
(7", $20.00)

Herz Juhning - Miasma (Galakthorro)
First full-length album from this newcomer to the Galakthorro family, whose Faces 7" the luckier ones of you may have had a chance to hear. True to the label's tradition, Herz Juhning delivers a compact dose of stylized dread that navigates somewhere between November Novelet's pulsating angst-pop ("Reopened Eyes") and Subliminal's dreary analog power electronics ("The Rape", "Infibulation"). No surprises, no gimmicks, just 13 solid tracks of torpor and contempt.
(CD, digipak with 16-page booklet, $20.00)

Cloama & Die Blutleuchte - Cloama & Die Blutleuchte (Anima Arctica)
CD reprint of the 2005 collaboration CD-R originally released by New Old Sentinel. If the psychedelic industrial / baroque experimental nature of their other release together ("From Wasteland Mausoleums") caught your attention, you will not want to miss this. Incantations for the twilight hours. Yog-Sothoth is the key.
(CD, clear jewel case, 12-page booklet, $13.50)

Hated Bruit Kollektiv - Aktion One (New Nihilism)
Hated Bruit Kollektiv is the name for the ephemeral collaborative project between Rafal Sadej (Moan) and Tomasz Twardawa (Genetic Transmission), two of Poland's better artists operating in the post-industrial domain. This release captures their live performance at the 2007 Bez Kontroli Festival, and it's presented here in the shape of 37-min stream-of-consciousness maelstrom of whirring, clanging and heavily textured noise. Not the "harsh noise" pedal mashing variety that is, this is much more atmospheric and shifting in nature, with certain moments bringing to mind the more subdued material they release under their own main projects.
(Pro-printed CD-R in folded A2 poster sleeve, $12.50)

Per Aspera - Nil Desperandum (New Nihilism)
Surprisingly glossy if uneven dark ambient from this newcomer to the Polish post-industrial scene. The better tracks tracks are built around deep drones and choir-like processed voices that succeed at giving the whole affair a stark cinematic tone that falls somewhere between Parca Pace and Band of Pain. Some specific pieces ("Crematorium" and "Shkiyat Hoolam") gradually incorporate samples of 9/11 witness accounts, Israeli news snippets and Arabic chanting and instrumentation in a fairly clumsy manner (the unintentionally hilarious homemade "jihadist death threat" is straight out of some cheesy Golan-Globus production, complete with a misnamed "Radaman" reference). Aside from that distracting break in continuity (which can still be enjoyed for its sheer tackiness), "Nil Desperandum" achieves what it set out to do in terms of quality ambient.
(CD, A5-sized digipak, $14.00)

Stalnoy Pakt - ROA (ALF Produkt)
Write-up and samples to be added shortly. In stock now.
(3"CD-R, oversized sleeve, $12.00)

Stalnoy Pakt - O Roma O Morte! (ALF Produkt)
Sights and sounds of Fascist Italy condensed into one 16-min long military-industrial collage of anthems, marches, cheering crowds and gramophone fuzz. Includes a 3-min video clip set to the tune of a reconstructed version of "Giovinezza". Best enjoyed with a fine glass of castor oil.
(CD-R in oversized sleeve, $12.00)

Vetrophonia - Generalissimus Chiang Kaishek (ALF Produkt)
Short EP dedicated to Chiang Kai-Shek, the Chinese political and military leader who fought both the Japanese during WW2 and against the Communists in the following civil war, ultimately resulting in the creation of the Republic of China (known today as Taiwan). 4 tracks of subdued musique concrete merged with sampled Chinese musical elements. Limited to 30 copies.
(3"CD-R, oversized hand-made sleeve, $12.00, last copy)

(3"CD-R, oversized hand-made sleeve, $12.00)

Ritualnaya Bioingeneria - Poluraspad (Ultra)
Ritualnaya Bioingeneria is Lunar Abyss Deus Organum dragged from the forest and forced into industrial labor. With its combination of busy factory sounds, bursts of radio noise and snippets of Soviet-era gramophone recordings, "Poluraspad" is definitely at home on Alexander Lebedev-Frontov's label. Few copies in stock.
(CD-R, silver-inked paper sleeve, $12.00)

T.A.U. - Absolutely Black Body (Ultra)
Back in stock. Collaboration effort from Kirill Rozhkov and Alexander Lebedev-Frontov. Machine noise and processed radio signals that have a trance-like quality to them. Limited to 120 hand-numbered copies.
(CD-R, cardboard sleeve, $12.00)

T.A.U. - T.A.U. (Ultra)
First self-titled release from this collaboration between Kirill Rozhkov (S36NZ-OKH) and Alexander Lebedev-Frontov (whom you should already know of by the time you're reading this). Where Linija Mass is the sound of industrial labor running at full capacity, T.A.U.'s debut album is its nighttime counterpart, with the pacing of the activity subdued and restrained. The shouts of the foreman are ghostly echoes here, and the faint rumble of automated machinery is only interrupted by sparse malfunctions in its cycles. The poetry of machines in motion.
(CD-R, cardboard sleeve, $12.00)

Lunar Abyss Deus Organum - Snovidenie (BioSonar Labirint)
First full-length CD album from the new incarnation of the long-active St Petersburg project known as Lunar Abyss Quartet. The material presented here is in the vein of the Brusnika 7" released on Drone Records and the Sleeping in the Sleep mini-album, with a similarly haunting and ethereal atmosphere. Ritual percussion, traditional Russian folk instruments and field recordings come together to form these incantations for forest spirits over a background of hazy drones and discreet electronics. A personal favorite that comes highly recommended.
Each copy comes in a different hand-made cardboard package.
(CD, hand-made cardboard sleeve, $14.00)

Lunar Abyss Deus Organum - Tuntury (Aquarellist)
New 2009 release from St Petersburg's finest purveyor of shamanistic ambient. Psychedelic drones, rustling bells and clear melodic tones are overlaid over natural field recordings of rain, crackling fire and bird calls, but the more animated pace of these 6 tracks makes for an active hallucinatory listening experience rather than a strictly laid-back "ambient" affair.
For this release, Evgeny Savenko was joined by M.M. of Zhelezobeton / Kryptogen Rundfunk on processed guitars, synths and tapes.
(CD, digisleeve, $14.00)

Linija Mass - Industrealism (ALF Produkt)
Mini-album composed of two tracks from 2001 and one from 2007. This is some of the most rhythmical and loop-based material released by Linija Mass, mechanical grinding and the restrained hum of machinery replacing the maelstrom of factory noise present on earlier releases. A different direction approached with the project's consistent stakhanovist efficiency.
(3"CD in oversized sleeve, $12.00)

Dvar - Jraah Mraah (Gravitator Records)
The mysterious creatures of Dvar are back with a whole new repertoire of otherworldly songs and playful little ditties. Thankfully not much has changed since the last time, and "Jraah Mraah" has the same hobgoblin-like vocals and impish melodies that make every one of their albums a fairy tale for the ears, keeping with the oral tradition that is essential to the genre. There's one key difference though: the tale is no longer being told from the point of view of an omniscient narrator in your language, but directly by the gnomes, trolls and pixies themselves in theirs. Wonderfully enchanting as always.
(CD, clear jewel case, $14.00, last copy)

Dvar - Rakhilim (Monopoly)
A personal favorite and definitely an acquired taste, Dvar is a mysterious Russian band that makes music ideally suited for drunken gnomes and overworked elves, complete with otherworldly vocals and cartoon-ish melodies. Hysterically joyful at times, desperately melancholic at others, Dvar is always completely off the charts in the best way possible and this is definitely one of their highest points so far.
(CD, clear jewel case, $13.00)

Bad Sector - The Harrow (Ewers Tonkunst)
Re-release of this classic Bad Sector album from 2001 in a slick digisleeve. Based on sounds emanating from a digital Geiger counter and naval, air and military radio bands fed through custom signal processing, "The Harrow" is just as impressive today as when it was initially released, with its streams of radiant signals and impulsive electronic patterns. Absolutely essential.
(CD, digisleeve, $14.50)

Various Artists - Sacral Symphony (EE Tapes)
5 exclusive and long-playing tracks curated by Evgeny Voronovski of Cisfinitum for this great yet discreet Belgian label. The contributors are 1000schøen, Troum, Rapoon, First Human Ferro and Cisfinitum himself. Also features great artwork by Eugeny Kuprienko, who also took care of the design for Cisfinitum's "Tactio".
(CD, oversized screen-printed sleeve, $16.00)

Rapoon - Escaping From Color (Rapoon Recomposed & Remixed) (Quasi Pop Records)
15-track compilation of music exclusively composed with Rapoon's "Tribal Sci Fi" sound library. Participants include Francisco Lopez, Machinefabriek, Troum, Jorge Castro, Aidan Baker, Anla Courtis, Mike Shiflet, Cisfinitum and more.
(CD, digisleeve, $13.50)

KK Null - Galactic Tornado (Quasi Pop Records)
2008 release from long-active experimental musician Kazuyuki Kishino. While the combination of a prolific discography and the "guitar noise improv" tag kept me away from his works so far as efficiently as the colors on a poison dart frog, my preconceptions were thankfully proved wrong by this album. Far from being interchangeable and self-indulgent, the five 10+ minute tracks here do not show a single moment of dullness. Attention has been obviously paid to keeping the flow dynamic and renewing the pool of sounds, as thick slabs of cosmic noise crash into twitchy electronic pulses and deflagrations. If this is representative of his current work, I'll be definitely investigating more of his similar material.
(CD, multi-paneled digipak, $13.50)

Job Karma - Tschernobyl (Ars Benevola Mater)
This 2007 release from Poland's Job Karma is a concept album based around the Chernobyl nuclear disaster and its aftermath. Melancholic synth melodies, minimal rhythmic patterns and layered voice samples are used in the same carefully constructed manner as on 2005's "Strike", and this is definitely a commendable and consistent follow-up to it (barring the somehow off-topic "Man in my Room" with its ridiculous sample from "Saw").
(CD, multi-paneled digipak with booklet, $16.00)
Format: CD, digisleeve with 12-page booklet, 500 copies
Release date: April 16, 2009
Price: $13

The second album from Jacen Kemp and Robert Andrew Scott stands as a stylistic counter-statement to 2005's "Horizon Grid." Fierce, emotionally driven and abrasively textured, "All Sound / No Vision" confirms Flatline Skyline's masterful sense of tension and release and melodic sensibility while further evolving their sound beyond any previous expectation.

Where "Horizon Grid" forged atmospheres of lethargic bliss and nocturnal stillness, these eleven new tracks are united by their restlessness and unstable nature. From the energetic vocals and metallic shard-like pulse of "Fox Fight" to the improvised noisy electronic shudders of "One Secret," there is a new-found sense of visceral life that breathes, screams and seeps into every moment of this album. Jacen Kemp's voice plays a prominent role in this aspect; its multi-faceted intonations are perfectly suited to the shifting electronic foundation.

"All Sound / No Vision" was mastered by JJ at Golden Mastering (Xiu Xiu, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum, Calexico, etc.) and was made possible by the generous help of Bertrand Hamonou.

Mp3 tracks can be found on the release's page.

Job Karma - Tschernobyl (Ars Benevola Mater)
This
2007 release from Poland's Job Karma is a concept album based around
the Chernobyl nuclear disaster and its aftermath. Melancholic synth
melodies, minimal rhythmic patterns and layered voice samples are used
in the same carefully constructed manner as on 2005's "Strike", and
this is definitely a commendable and consistent follow-up to it
(barring the somehow off-topic "Man in my Room" with its ridiculous
sample from "Saw").
(CD, multi-paneled digipak with booklet, $16.00)

Aere Aeternus - Humanity Needs No Funeral (Kaosthetik Konspiration)
Label info:
"'Humanity Needs No Funeral', the first full-length album from AERE
AETERNUS, was released on the French label Kaosthetik. With a
multi-national and eclectic lineup, the band comprises Alex (MACABRE
OMEN, THE ONE, RAZOR OF OCCAM), Claudio Alcara (FROSTMOON ECLIPSE,
STROSZEK), Cyr (DARK SANCTUARY, ELKTRONIK SCIETY) and Radu. [...]
The
dominant atmosphere combines a sense of impending insanity with sexual
deviancy and a large dollop of occultism, creating a dark and troubling
misanthropic sojourn that is relatively unique. [...] The accompanying
video of 'Invocation' shows a Satanic ritual in all its kitschy glory."
(CD, digisleeve, $15.00)

Cisfinitum - Nevmenosis (Afe Records)
A collection
of tracks from recent compilation appearances ("Roulette Russe Pour Un
Peu De Caviar", "Table For Six: All Quiet?", "Iznutri"), the split CD
with Rapoon and two previously unreleased pieces ("Nevmenosis" and
"Dissolutio"). Mastered for consistency by Andrea Marutti.
(pro-printed CD-R in oversized gatefold sleeve, $16.00)

Luasa Raelon - The House of Flesh (Snip-Snip)
New
2008 from David Reed's main project. Doom-ridden synth wailings and
gloomy atmospheres welcome you inside the House of Flesh. Absolute
audio dread.
(CD, jewel case, $9.00)

Various Artists - Energia (OMS Records)
Tribute
compilation dedicated to Sergey Pavlovich Korolyov (1907-1966), the
head Soviet rocket engineer and designer during the Space Race of the
50s and 60s between the United States and the Soviet Union. The Soviet
counterpart to Wernher Von Braun, if you will. Released on the
centenary of his birthday, this is a fitting cosmic ambient homage with
exclusive tracks from Cisfinitum, Autopsia, Vestigial, Deutsch Nepal
and Satori, First Human Ferro, Kryptogen Rundfunk and Nocturnal
Emissions, Visions and more. Comes with an extensive 12-page booklet.
(Multi-paneled digipak with booklet, $14.00)

Frozen Faces - Broken Sounds of a Dying Culture (Wrotycz Records)
Re-release
of the 1997 LP by this Deutsch Nepal side-project, along with the two
tracks from the "Religion of Hate" 7". While the hypnotic loops of its
immediate parent are carried over, this is a much cruder affair, with
no room for ornamental effects or intricate structuring. This is
stripped-down blunt-as-bones rhythms repeating themselves with
mantra-like insistence. Rewarding in the right state of mind, utterly
alienating in other circumstances.
(CD, oversized sleeve, $15.00, last copy)

Contemplatron - Delog (Wrotycz Records)
Sophomore
release from this Polish dark ambient project strongly influenced by
Tibetan Buddhism. The Tibetan word Delog refers to one who has crossed
the threshold of death and returned to tell about it. 45 minutes of
serene compositions and ritualistic instrumentations, with an overall
tone that would fit somewhere between Exotoendo and Herbst9.
(multi-paneled digipak, $15.00, last copy)

Down in June - Covers... Death in June (Nerus)
15 Totenpop re-interpretations of classic Death in June tracks by this new Swedish band, including "Fall Apart", "Little Black Angel", "Fields of Rape", "Rose Clouds of the Holocaust" and many more. More imaginative than all of the copycats put together.
(CD, digisleeve, $17.00)

Somniorum - Anabiosis (Chimaera / Fight Muzik)
One last copy found in our stock. Guitar drone project based in St. Petersburg. Slow-paced and gentle harmonic material that will appeal to those into Aidan Baker, Maeror Tri, Troum and related artists.
(CD, paper sleeve, $16.00, last copy)

Nick Soudnick - Akhe Music Vol. 5 Faust ³ (Ultra)
Produced as the soundtrack for the theatre performance of "Faust ³" by Akhe, this work by Nick Soundnick seems him welding the industrial clamor of Vetrophonia to avant-garde classical music. Actual string and bass instruments are accompanied by metallic percussion and discreet electronic effects for a majestic result with a masterful sense of tension and release, with tracks ranging from high-cadence orchestrations to more restrained and atmospheric passages. Leagues above whatever similar attempts at this exercise have been made in the industrial scene.
(CD, multi-paneled sleeve with extensive booklet in Russian and English, $17.50)

Maurizio Bianchi & Atrax Morgue - M. Plus T. (Silentes)
The last recorded material from Marco Corbelli comes in the shape of this collaboration with Maurizio Bianchi. The two long and life-draining tape loop dirges presented here betray a morbid serenity further emphasized by their faded melodic elements and stop/start editing. While "No More" is a more representative epitaph for Atrax Morgue, this is nevertheless a logical collaboration that has sadly become a final statement.
(CD, clear jewel case, $16.00)

Megaptera - Beyond The Massive Darkness (Cold Meat Industry)
Essential 2CD that brings together both the "Songs from the Massive Darkness" LP and the "Beyond the Shadow" CD with some remixed tracks from "The Curse of the Scarecrow". Mastered by Ulf Soderberg of Sephiroth fame. Released back in 2001 and currently out of print. This is a new and sealed copy.
(2CD, digipak, $20.00, last copy)

November Novelet - Sacred (Galakthorroe)
Label info: "The new 4-track vinyl EP from November Novelet. Deep emotions behind a stoic manner, walking tall in the face of sadness. Frau Arafna's graveyard voice, melancholy melodies and lashing rhythms invite you to dance into oblivion. Plus novelistic synth sound-carpets that carry one to Heaven. An intensive sound experience that will draw you in - many-layered, full of variety, but in spite of this, so modestly minimal." One copy per purchase and available if bought with a Galakthorroe CD.
(7", $16.50)

Hermann Kopp - Under A Demon's Mask (Galakthorroe)
Label info: "Everybody who has seen the Buttgereit films Nekromantik 1+2 and Todesking, has heard of Hermann Kopp. The music he wrote and performed for them is ever-present, pervading the atmosphere and has contributed considerably to the advancement of these films into classics. He still retains to this day his exceptional musical ability, and proves it yet again.
Galakthorroe is proud to be able to present 13 new songs from the nekrodramatist: more than 40 minutes of new material, which today - just as it did then - has as its core his dissonant-tempered and individualistic violin playing. Combined with electronics, a host of weird instruments and metal percussion he creates an unequaled gruesome opus, carried by an effectively conceived minimalism, and the most beautiful and haunting Angst melodies imaginable. So morbid and wonderful in fact, that we have to ask ourselves how we co
uld manage to survive for so long without any new material from Hermann Kopp - and which demons were riding him that he had to keep us waiting so long."
(CD, digipak with booklet, $20.00)

Rrupt - Traverser (Egone)
Stunning ethno-industrial from this obscure and sadly overlooked French project. Inspired by Lionel Tran's novel "Traverser du Desert" and involving a number of other artistic contributions such as the calligraphy of Thomas Foucher and the photography of Jean-Marie Arnouil, "Traverser" is a beautifully presented journey across a scorched desert where daytime mirages cede only to the night's icy winds.
(CD, digipak with booklet, $15.00)

Various Artists - A Selection Of Drones Past: Singles 1993-2000 (Tumult)
Compilation of select tracks from Drone Records' 7" vinyls, in a more digital-friendly format. Includes tracks from Maeror Tri, Alio Die, Inade, Aube, Klood, Vance Orchestra, Tarkatak, Toy Bizarre, Yen Pox and more.
(2CD, gatefold sleeve, $20.00)

Troum - Ryna (Transgredient Records)
Re-issue of the 1998 debut album.
(CD, digipak, $17.00)

Troum - AIWS (Transgredient Records)
Label info: "AIWS is the first full length Troum album since many years, covering studio recordings from 2002-2005. Troum selected their favourite pieces from these years to be placed on this album, all analogically recorded on 4- and 8-track machines. Presented here are 9 tracks leading the listener through basic feelings of yearning, melancholy, and transcension.
The most emotional and profound Troum album ever. Dedicated to eternity.
The ingredients: Sufi songs and old vinyl crackles, acoustic and e-guitars, e-bow, e-bass, voice and whispering, accordeon & flute."
(CD, 6-panel digipak, $17.00)

Hati - Mantra-I - Prehistory Of HATI: Vol. 1 (Eter)
Early 1997 recordings from this Polish project, this time with a ritual touch added to their percussive / junk metal modus operandi. 6 long pieces of hypnotizing lo-fi loops and drones.
(CD-R, oversized paper sleeve, $11.00)

Hati - Works for Scrap Metal (Eter)
A collection of 9 minimalistic audio exercises achieved using exclusively the sounds of various pieces of discarded metal junk (barrels, springs, chains, steel plates, etc...). The crystalline recording quality strongly emphasizes the timber and tone of each sound source, bringing to mind some of the more subdued A.B.G.S. material.
(CD, thick folded ecopaper sleeve with booklet, $16.00)

For mp3 samples and ordering, please go to the catalog page.

The relocation to Northern Virginia is now over and the stock shipment has finally reached its destination, meaning that our mail order activities will now resume from our new location.

European / worldwide customers are definitely more than welcome to order from us as usual, specially given the current low USD value and the cheap international shipping costs in the US.

Please note that due to the lack of an appropriate printer at the time, most of our own CD-R releases will not be available for a while, so consider ordering them from one of our distributors if you should be looking for them.

- Detailed list of additions -

Mattias Frisk - Ett Liv I Vantan Pa Doden (Self-released)
Second
part of what is announced as a trilogy of releases by Swedish artist
Mattias Frisk, whose eerie and colorful paintings and collages are just
as attention-worthy as his musical output.
Exploring the themes of "time, death and apathy", this second chapter
shifts to slower and more dispiriting sounds, with gloomy piano
melodies and ghostly drones pierced by brittle noise shards. Solemn and
somber like it should be, this definitely comes highly recommended.
Packaged like the first volume in an envelope with a hand-written
letter in Swedish.
(CD-R in envelope, $10.00)

Urna - Liber Lelle (Abgurd)
New 2008 release from
long-active Italian artist Gianluca Martucci, with a number of past
releases on Slaughter Productions. Gradually stepping away from its
dank death industrial origins towards more ritualistic and luminous
sounds over the years, Urna's new work further confirms this evolution
with its compositions of serene acoustic ambient. Bells, cymbals,
percussion, mandolin, balalaika, zither, accordion and flutes are woven
together into a lustrous tapestry of sound dedicated to the life and
death of Angela da Foligno, a Christian author, nun, and mystic. This
could easily be a White Magic audio counterpart to Endura's "Black
Eden".
(CD-R, plastic case, $13.00)

Neuntoter der Plage - The White Ashen (Abgurd)
Re-release
of the long sold-out tape originally issued on Ryan Opperman's own
Skeletone label. Three long tracks of poisonous death drones and
demonic howlings.
(CD-R, oversized sleeve with netted fiber cover, $13.00)

Isolrubin BK - Crash Injury Trauma (Soleilmoon)
Lustmord
side-project themed on car crashes and their consequences. Between
Terror Against Terror's clinical electro and Lustmord's brooding
ambient works. Released back in 1993, and long sold out and out of
print. Only one spare copy, in as new condition.
(CD, jewel case, $25.00, last copy)

Oxyd meets Sumad - Mysterious Places Of Dead Souls (Ars Benevola Mater)
Ethereal
ambient from Slovakia with a somewhat baroque touch to it. Spacious
drones are layered with melodic instrumentation and sparse processed
vocal samples. Somewhere between Bisclaveret, Tabor Radosti and some
CMI acts.
(CD, oversized cardboard sleeve, $17.00)

O Paradis - Pequenas Canciones De Amor (Tourette)
New
2008 release from our favorite Catalonian troubadour, with a somewhat
more light-hearted and poppy spirit than "Cuando El Tiempo Sopla". Pure
Mediterranean sunshine. Also features a cover of Bob Dylan's "It Ain't
Me, Babe".
(CD, digipak, $20.00)

Nikita Golyshev - Solaris (Monochrome Vision)
Debut
CD album from Nikita Golyshev, a Moscow artist also known for his many
mp3 releases as CD-R. "Solaris" comes in the shape of two long deep
ambient pieces with perpetually expanding drones and minimal melodic
tones. These tracks were partially presented at the Add Noise II
festival on May 15th, 2007.
(CD, jewel case, $16.00)

Various Artists - Roulette Russe pour un peu de Caviar (Monochrome Vision)
A
compilation of exclusive tracks by Russian artists, intended for
presentation at the 2007 "Bruit de la neige" festival by Studio Forum
(Annecy, France). Both established acts and newcomers are represented
here, covering the fields of electro-acoustic, abstract electronic
music, drone ambient and noise collages. Features Kolpakopf,
Bardoseneticcube, Exit In Grey, Cisfinitum, Instant Movie Combinations,
Hum, CD-R, Interior Disposition, Alexei Borisov, Kryptogen Rundfunk,
Moscow Laptop Orchestra and Noises Of Russia.
(CD, jewel case, $16.00)

Various Artists - We're Punch Addicted (Punch Records)
18
exclusive tracks from the established Punch roster and a host of
newcomers with a similar taste for the eclectic. Features tracks from
Ait!, Erik Ursich, O Paradis, Comando Suzie, Nina Belief, The Plague
Year of Audioscope, J.G. Cabargas & Los Inmortales, Pierre Normal,
Ronin, Manasyt, Merging of the Self, Divine Muzak, Thomas Nola et son
Orchestre, Mushroom's Patience, 1997EV, Terroritmo, Luftwaffe and Smrt
I Cekic.
(CD, clear jewel case, $18.00)

O Paradis - Las Nubes que Mueren (Punch Records)
2CD
compilation of previously abandoned and unreleased tracks and demos
from past recording sessions. While this sort of exercise usually
gathers leftovers that prove only interesting to completists, O
Paradis' level of work makes this collection a release that can
definitely stand on its own merit.
(2CD, digipak, $23.00)

Jazkamer - Balls The Size Of Texas, Liver The Size Of Brazil (Purple Soil)
While
the prolific duo of John Hegre and Lasse Marhaug is mostly known for
its taxing brand of harsh noise and glitch-happy deconstructions, this
2007 release on Czech label Purple Soil proves to be much more affable
than their past works would have suggested. Sure, there is an
electronic storm of a piece somewhere on here that's guaranteed to have
you jumping for the volume knob, and the first track is basically
little more than an old medical report apparently found on vinyl, but
the real attraction here is to be found on the tracks which rely on a
strangely western-tinged blend of guitar noise. The drawn-out squalls
and piercing feedback become sorrowful ballads for desert sunrises and
midnight prairies, the sort better seen when the whiskey kicks in. In
those moments of grace, everything else just fades away.
(CD, multi-paneled booklet, $16.00)

Svasti-Ayanam - Sanklesa (Eternal Pride)
Label info:
"Svasti-ayanam is Peter Andersson's foray into dark, Tibetan-Nepalese
ambience. Andersson is well known for his work as Raison D'etre,
Atomine Elektrine etc. In this incarnation, his signature Raison D'etre
sound has been modified in an incredibly pronounced, and effective way.
Sanklesa is marked by strong tribal rhythms that draw the listener into
distant, foreign, ritual soundscapes. Andersson has released a prolific
catalogue of music, that includes many CD's, limited vinyl and
countless compilation appearances. Album includes 2 exclusive
bonus-tracks."
(CD, digipak, $20.00)

Nordvargr - Helvete (Eternal Pride)
Label info:
"The newest creation from Villa Bohult, the Nordvargr family burial
vault. This time the "cursed poet" Wrest from the USBM Leviathan Cult
and Drakhon (Beyond Sensory Experience, MZ.412) have joined the night
sessions of the never sleeping Swedish zombie.
It would be totally insane to be waiting for something life-asserting,
light and positive from the three of them. "Helvete" is just the
overwhelming Darkness and the ice-cold all-filling Terror. Meditative
and sinister Dark Ambient rhythms are filled with the ominous whisper
of Wrest and Drakh. Deep and lengthy drones as well as the charming
atmosphere of the Swedish industrial decadence.
At the end of this trip all of those nostalgic for the times of the
"Burning The Temple Of God" MZ.412 will be fully rewarded for all the
years of waiting..."
(CD, digipak, $20.00)

STROM.ec - Manual of Diagnosis (Neuroscan.org)
Label info:
"Listen to the sounds of torment from a lobotomized nervous system and
spasms of hallucinatory madness. STROM.ec is back with a painful pure
industrial experience from rhythmless, smoking, burning, nauseating
ambiances to vibrant cosmic pulsations which either unite with God or
the worst nightmare of schizophrenia. Never afraid to take one
progressive step further, STROM.ec has progressed from power
electronics to a para-psychological frenzy of influences and alternate
states of mind that border on the clinically deranged. Definitely not
easy-listening music but the added depth of production and audio
technology is sure to tune your subconscious to become one with
STROM.ec's extreme, damned and perverted sensory suggestion. "The
Manual Diagnosis" is conceived as a concept album on surgical lobotomy."
(CD, DVD case with insert, $15.50)

Cloama & Blutleuchte - From Wasteland Mausoleums (New Old Sentinel)
Stunning
collaboration release between those two Finnish projects. Cloama's
lurch towards more experimental sounds from its power electronics /
noise beginnings is further emphasized by Die Blutleuchte's
contributions, and this release effortlessly shifts from
post-apocalyptic mantras to doom jazz dirges, with distorted guitar
melodies and bleak atmospheres thrown in between. Scrapyard shamanism
at its best. On a side-note, be sure to also look into Die
Blutleuchte's "Rus", a sonic overview of Russian military history.
(CD, clear jewel case with UV-coated 8-page booklet, $15.50)

- Detailed list of additions -

Halo Manash - Language of Red Goats (Aural Hypnox)
New 2008 release from Aural Hypnox's spearhead project. "Language of Red Goats" sets aside the intricate textures of previous releases for a stripped-down and primal approach, relying mostly on reverberating gongs, bells and various acoustic sounds to form the backbone of this album. In lesser hands, this could be a recipe for dull listening, but the 3 long flowing tracks presented here make for an absorbing session of ritualistic music done right.
(CD, hand-made cardboard booklet, 12.00 €)

Maurizio Bianchi - Neuro Habitat (Abgurd)
Re-release of the 1998 EEs'T Records CD, which itself was a re-release of the 1982 LP of the same name with an extra track that was on the "Fur Ilse Koch" compilation on Susan Lawly. Old-school MB at his best.
(CD, jewel case, 11.00 €)

Inade - Aldebaran (Cold Spring)
Label info: "The masters of Black Ambient! "Aldebaran" is the black sun of the secret knowledge. This work focuses on the German Vril society myths of 'Aldebaran', from which universal spirituality is said to originate. One hour of immense walls of dark, brooding atmospherics, pulsating anthems of the universal power, mixed with themes of heritage and history. The ultimate document of deep and cavernous dark ambient."
(CD, clear jewel case, 13.00 €)

Sutcliffe Jugend - Pigdaddy (Cold Spring)
Label info: "The Sutcliffe Jugend filthy dirt-mess of an album that is Pigdaddy is now available on Cold Spring. Six stories of mind-fucking depravity. Pigdaddy contains some of the most fucked up, histrionic and downright bizarre vocals ever recorded. The music is created using the most basic sound sources. The overwhelming sense of moral decay makes this Sutcliffe Jugend's most original album yet. Pigdaddy is Beyond Perverse. Sexual transgression never sounded so dirty. Hear Pigdaddy and you will never feel clean again. Cover painting by Kevin Tomkins."
(CD, clear jewel case, 13.00 €)

Krepulec - New Radical (Beast of Prey)
Krepulec is a duo involving the head of the Beast of Prey label and the person behind Horologium. While they have released a number of splits and EPs, this is their first full-length album and it's the same blend of martial rhythms, neo-folk and subdued industrial influences as on their previous discs. A note-worthy aspect of this album is the recurrent use of accordions, which adds a nice nostalgic touch to its sound.
(CD, oversized sleeve held by a ribbon, 12.00 €)

Genetic Transmission - Ascetic (Beast of Prey)
New album from this absurdly overlooked Polish industrial pioneer, whose previous work includes many self-releases on Die Schone Blumen Musik Werk and activities in projects such as Ładne Kwiatki, Godzilla and Hated Bruit Kollectiv. "Ascetic" is just as abstract and demanding as one would expect, with its brittle electro-acoustic textures slithering and scraping through three 20-min tracks. An acquired taste for some, but those interested in Niellerade Fallibilisthorstar and modern futurism shouldn't ignore this one.
(CD, circular cardboard packaging, 12.00 €)

Desolation Zone - L'Homme Machine (Beast of Prey)
"L'Homme Machine" is named after a book by French philosopher Julien Offray de La Mettrie, the founder of a radical form of materialism he named mechanism. The six tracks presented here live up to this creed by delivering a solid 38 minutes of cadenced factory noises, mechanical rhythms and instructions barked over the factory's PA systems, like a more electronic and rhythmical version of some Linija Mass or Genetic Transmission tracks. Great stuff.
(CD, circular metal case with insert, black latex gloves and scalpel blade, 13.00 €)

Ishai Adar - Beaufort Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Ak Duck)
Original soundtrack to "Beaufort", the 2007 Berlinale Film Festival Silver Bear winner for best director. "Beaufort" tells the story of the last group of IDF soldiers stationed in the South Lebanon outpost of the same name, prior to the evacuation of Israeli forces from the country in 2000.
Its soundtrack was composed by Israeli electronic artist Ishai Adar, who was previously involved in the experimental pop band "The Top-Hat Carriers". This is Adar's second motion picture soundtrack, and it's an ominous and pensive combination of processed digital sounds, warm ambient drones and sedated melodies. The press release suggests comparisons to Philip Jack, Biosphere & William Basinski, but this comes recommended to anyone looking for a great example of a subtle contemporary electronic score.
(CD, clear jewel case, 11.00 €)

Hollowing & Maor Appelbaum - Collaborating Torture (Topheth Prophet / Heart & Crossbone)
One monolithic 54 min track of spectral ambience courtesy of Israeli musician Maor Appelbaum (Poochlatz, Vultures) and the late Matt Gibney (AKA Hollowing, So I Had To Shoot Him and owner of the Rectrix label). Those of you who picked up his collaboration with Chaos as Shelter which we released back in 2005 should definitely look into this.
(CD, clear jewel case, 11.00 €)

Barzel - Born to Destroy Amalek (Topheth Prophet)
Second album from Barzel, fueled as always by the cause of militant Zionism. Whereas the first album felt like a historical overview of the topic (complete with sampled excerpts from documentaries and political speeches), "Born to Destroy Amalek" is much more aggressive, confrontational and personal, like stepping into the mind of a Hebron settler clutching his M-16. The emphasis on more ferocious vocals and heavy power electronics drives this point across, with samples of threats of violence becoming vengeful mantras. Beneath the Biblical references of the titles, the antagonism is real. This is the sound of unforgiving siege mentality, for those who can stomach it.
(CD, digisleeve, 11.00 €)

Various Artists - Stalin And Mao Listen To Us (Triangle Records)
Sino-Russian noise compilation. Russians: Monopolka, Maaaa, Natural Obscenity in Sexual Experiments, Tydish, Melody. Chinese: Torturing Nurse, Hong Qike, Noiser Luo, Ronez, Li Jianhong.
(CD-R in folded B&W poster sleeve, 5.00 €)

Voltage - Lucifer Over Ptz (Triangle Records)
Label info: "[...] Intense industrial dark-ambient, creating an atmosphere of sadness and endless winter. Journey trough misty and foggy landscapes. Sounds of gears, that works in the Abyss of coldness and ice. Final chapter in history of this karelian project. The End. Pro-printed tape, pressed-paper cover sealed tape. 50 copies."
(Tape, 5.00 €)

Burial Hex - Wall of Zombies (Triangle Records)
Label info: "Chtonic ritual industrial/power-electronics from graveland USA. Analog synthesizers, organ, metal, earth, insect, voice, piano, manipulated with tapes, feedback... horror electronics! ltd. to 50 copies."
(Tape, 5.00 €)

Novasak - Ignominy (Triangle Records)
Strained and sputtering electronic noise from Colorado, USA. Delivered with a satisfying low-end crunch and some metal clanging thrown in the mix.
(CD-R in foil paper sleeve, 5.00 €)

Cisfinitum - Tactio [mn033] (Mechanoise Labs)
With a parsimonious discography mostly released on seasoned Russian labels such as Waystyx, Ewers Tonkunst and Monochrome Vision, Evgeny Voronovsky has established himself as an uniquely engaging artist in the country's current ambient scene. Under the name of Cisfinitum, he has taken a syncretic approach to an often codified genre, uniting his formal training as a violinist at the Moscow State University with his affinity for concrete sounds and experimental structures. Past releases have shown a capacity to synthesize these factors at times while emphasizing the contrasts between them at others, sometimes over the course of a single track. In this aspect, this album follows the tradition faithfully.
Tactio is the live recording of a Cisfinitum concert at the St. Petri Dom (St. Peter's Cathedral) in Bremen, on November 24, 2005. The particular (and as expected highly favorable) acoustics of this environment were consistently used not only as an enhancing effect but as an integral foundation for the performance, making it unmistakeably tied to its context. Presented in the form of six continuous tracks, the album is a contemplative composition of vibrant drones, reverberating bells and synthesized resonance, gracefully evolving from the celestial tones of its start to the tellurian pulses of its climax. This is a piece of work that is elaborate in its simplicity, and it's with much appreciation that it is presented here today. The beautiful iconic artwork by Evgeny Kuprienko further emphasizes the relic-like qualities of this recording.
(CD, digipak, 12.00 €)

Karma Kommando - The Revolver as a Prayer Wheel [mn032] (Mechanoise Labs)
Voluntarily misappropriated karmic concepts for powerless electronics. Like perpetually stumbling in the cycles of cause and consequence with no exit in sight. Mostly conceived and recorded with a few self-feeding pedals, vocals and some wind chimes. "To right every wrong, to wrong every right".
(3" CD-R, mini-DVD case, 6.00 €)

Concrete Belly - Concrete Belly [mn031] (Mechanoise Labs)
Somewhere between bedroom folk music, circuit-bent electronics and comatose drones, this mini-album brings together a little selection of tracks sent to us by this UK musician. The fragile melodies and shimmering guitar sounds might bring to mind some of Aidan Baker's releases, but the noisier riffs and more loop-based structures of these tracks definitely give them their own personality. Disarmingly touching music for those windy yet sunny days.
(3" CD-R, mini-jewel case, 6.00 €)

-----------------------------------------------

- Detailed list of additions -

Various Artists - Moral Hazard (Indie-ziert)
16 tracks from the current power electronics scene, featuring contributions from Mourmansk 150, Schwadron, Jesus Of Nazareth, La Comunidad, Melodic Abortion Orchestra, Radio Murmansk, Cavum Oris, Mortuor, Hatred In Eyes, Climax Denial, Sewer Goddess, Leiche Rustikal, Persona and Steel Hook Prostheses.
(CD, slim DVD case with inserts, 11.00 €)

Invisible Front - Interferences And Time (Indie-ziert)
Appropriately subtitled "Kampf auf allen Frequenzen", the debut release by this Berlin-based unit chooses the radio as its key subject matter and explores its impact as the first major mass communication tool of the 20th century. As expected, this translates into samples of number stations, historical radio speeches and general shortwave chatter providing a backdrop for overdriven synthetic tones and crackling (yet controlled) noise. The less agitated moments bring to mind SRP's "Schriever Rundflugzeug Projekt" and other Membrum Debile Propaganda releases, but overall this album is much more abrasive than initially hinted at. A struggle on all frequencies indeed.
(CD, slim DVD case with inserts, 12.00 €)

O Paradis - Cuando el Tiempo Sopla (Punch Records)
A new album's worth of beautiful and melancholic tunes from Barcelona's O Paradis. The tone is sorrowful and nostalgic, with the passing of time serving as a constant theme throughout the album (I don't think I'm imagining those tick-tocking rhythms). Definitely a step away from the more upbeat collaborations with Novy Svet and even more unusual in some ways than "La Boca del Infierno" ("Desnuda" will certainly mess with you), this is another excellent release from O Paradis that's rightfully been released by Punch Records.
(CD, clear jewel case, 13.00 €)

Erik Ursich - Electronic Diffraction Patterns (Punch Records)
Setting aside the 70's synth LP vibe of his first album for another trip back in time to the raw electronic sounds of the 50's, Erik Ursich's new exercise in style is much less musical in nature and focusses more on the sounds themselves. Sounds of vintage analog synthesizers which come across as an homage to Louis and Bebe Barron's ground-breaking soundtrack to "Forbidden Planet", with melody and rhythm shunned in favor of texture, timbre and atonality over the course of this album's 5 long tracks. Highly recommended to those into early synth experimentation and bleeps and bloops. The CD includes a video which can be viewed on PCs.
(CD, clear jewel case, 13.00 €)

Comando Suzie - Pobres Chavales (Punch Records)
First album from a Spanish duo with a rather slick and sexy take on new-wave / 80's electro-pop. The eleven tracks of this album recount tales of "love, desire, remorse and punishment" set in Barcelona and as crooned by Comandante Raul. Sarcastic and refreshingly spirited.
(CD, clear jewel case, 13.00 €)

Uthana-Eise - g.d.g.r. (Halbwelt)
Debut release from this obscure german death industrial / power electronics unit. Plodding machine rhythms, buzzing electronic tones and a rather subdued vocal approach. Somewhat close to some of the less sample-heavy Objekt/Urian tracks.
(CD, jewel case, 12.00 €)

Various Artists - Muzyka Voln (Muzyka Voln)
Label info: "The first release of a new sublabel of ZHELEZOBETON - Muzyka Voln - is a compilation of the same name, containing compositions from twelve Russian projects playing ambient / drone music. A selection of audio-tales in which each project introduces the listener to its own sound world he's living in: mystical stories, isolationism, altered states of consciousness, space landscapes, monotonous technologic rumble, guitar passages and much more...
Specially for this compilation exclusive tracks were provided by: Anthesteria, Bardoseneticcube, Cisfinitum, Closing The Eternity, Exit In Grey, Hum, Instant Movie Combinations, Kshatriy, Lunar^Abyss^Deus^Organum, Necropolis, Polaris and RemoteBand.
This compilation may be useful for those interested in the Russian experimental scene and just for lovers of beautiful contemplative music. Artwork / photos of the Baltic Sea by Pavel "fljõt" Pevnitsky."
(CD, 6-panel digipak, 12.00 €)

Kryptogen Rundfunk & Hladna - Rokton & Formanta (Zhelezobeton)
Label info: "Hladna and Kryptogen Rundfunk - behind these names stand two St. Petersburg-based musicians playing experimental noise music. They both nourish a tender passion for old electronic instruments and often use them at their concerts and on recordings. One warm sunny day they gathered and decided to play on two analogue rhythm synthesizers "Rokton" and "Formanta". These are actually two identical instruments which were produced in the Soviet Union by two different factories. Each of them is the "brain" for electronic drum-kit, but can also be used separately - as a multi-channel tone-noise-generator or rhytm-machine.
Kryptogen Rundfunk used his device smoothly, evenly and calmly while Hladna expelled from his more sharp and unpredictable sounds. Worth mentioning are Hladna's non-standard ways of making sound - on the last two tracks he opened the back plate of his synth and played not only using knobs but also getting inside and abridging contacts with his own hands (for which he was incidentally struck by the current a couple of times).
Live recording without any processing, with all it's natural crackles and tasty overloads. Abstract electronics, minimalism and a little noise."
(3"CD-R in mini-gatefold sleeve, 6.00 €)

Overdose Kunst - Was ist Overdose Kunst (Zhelezobeton)
Label info: "The Japanese duet Overdose Kunst exists since 2001 and records a strange sort of music which they call "schizopoetry". Rejection of stylistic norms in the name of sound-craft freedom, deconstruction and irrational re-assemblage of musical material - that's what stands behind this term. This approach allows them to keep a child's purity and frankness in musical perception with the ability to send an emotional charge without using settled compositional forms. This disc includes the most song-like tracks of the band: crookedly recorded guitars, voices emotionally singing some nonsense in a mixture of several languages, and reversed melodies. Fine and lyrical post-rock from Japanese experimental underground."
(3"CD-R in mini-gatefold sleeve, 6.00 €)

Nazi Bastards From Aldebaran - Invasion (Zhelezobeton)
Achtung! This is a collection of all the tracks recorded by this mysterious band from the late 90's russian scene. The music is old-school electro-industrial with pumping bass lines, arpeggiated melodic loops and clanging beats, all mixed up with some samples to spice up the affair. With completely over the top titles such as "Swastika Man", "Illuminati" and "Nazi UFO Attacks Paris Nightclub", this is sure to be a hit with all the DJs in Neuschwabenland.
(CD-R, pro-printed color sleeve, 7.50 €)

Skincage - Things Fall Apart (Spectre)
"Things Fall Apart" is the much awaited second CD by Jon Ray's Skincage, almost seven years after his highly impressive debut album, "Axon". Mainly created using an array of self-made and broken instruments, circuit-bent electronics and concrete sounds, the album does come across as much more somber than its predecessor, while thankfully letting that certain luminous touch still gleam through the haze. Along with Hollydrift and Brutum Fulmen, Skincage is part of those relatively rare craftsmen capable of truly bringing out the extraordinary from the mundane, of making objects "sing" if you will. A rewarding experience in isolationist sound.
(CD, gatefold digisleeve, 13.00 €)

Thermidor - 1929 (Brume Records / Thisco)
Debut album from this Portugese dark ambient project, with a penchant for clear synthetic melodies and processed noises and atmospheric effects that brings to mind some First Law albums. Features remixes by Flint Glass and Empusae.
(CD, slim DVD case with a mock mini-newspaper, color insert and two stickers, 12.00 €)

N. - Memories From Before Being Born (Belligeranza)
Produced using nothing more than two empty tape-recorders connected to each other, this is the sound of nothingness, hollow frequencies and flat electroencephalograms. This album is presented over the course of 27 short tracks and fulfils its conceptual promise by straining raw, scum-drenched bass tones to oblivion.
(CD, jewel case, 12.00 €)

Mattias Frisk - En Dag I Väntan På Livet (Self-released)
Mattias Frisk is a graphic artist whose collaboration with fellow Swedes Altar of Flies and Gjalp was released not too long ago on Nil By Mouth. This 29-min debut solo release is a wonderfully strange collage of sputtering noise, acoustic pop music and bird songs. Overall, this is an imaginative piece of work that definitely warrants keeping an eye out his future releases. The presentation is equally unusual, as the CD-R comes inside a sealed envelope addressed to Mattias Frisk with a hand-written letter in Swedish and a color insert.
(CD-R in sealed envelope, 7.50 €)
Niellerade Fallibilisthorstar - Skrankverk (Dystonia EK)
New album from this Swedish band whose previous one was released on SNSE. Clanging, scraping and squeaking metal resonates over the hum of flooded machine rooms and the gas bursts from rusting pneumatic tubes. This is the sound of toiling poltergeists, endlessly repeating the rituals of an industrial wasteland's cargo cult.
(CD, digipak, 12.00 €)
Souvenir's Young America - An Ocean Without Water (Crucial Blast)
Label info: "Lush, shimmering guitar ambience and hypnotic, propulsive instrumental heaviness wind through the dusty highways and burnt twilight skies of "An Ocean Without Water," the sophomore album from Richmond's Souvenir's Young America. Divided into six flowing movements, "An Ocean Without Water" is filled with intensely beautiful melodies that drift on lonesome harmonica strains and sparkling, celestial electronics, shot through with mystic, western slide guitar, passages of crushing angular riffage, rolling tribal drumming, and transcendent blues. Through their intricate song arrangements and moody textures, Souvenir's Young America has created an epic, emotional narrative. The sound draws from the collected DNA of forebears like Popul Vuh, Earth, Labradford, and Neurosis, yet they form a powerfully evocative instrumental language all of their own. Luasa Raelon - Into The Void (Crucial Bliss)
Label info: "Finally, after a pronounced delay, we're presenting the latest in grim, Cthulhian ambient death from David Reed, the man behind the Snip-Snip CD-R label and the ice-drones of Envenomist. With Luasa Raelon, Reed uses deep-frozen synthesizers and electronics to construct pitch-black sonic sculptures that evoke lost cities carved from obsidian whose masterless machines have been left to grind on into eternity, or descents into stygian pits whose bottoms cannot be gauged. Into The Void is the newest masterwork from Reed, recorded in 2006 and presented here as a five-chapter narrative that chronicles a doomed space exploration, where all that is left are the faint transmissions of apocalyptic dread drifting back at us through time. Beyond ominous, and gorgeously eerie, Reed continues to craft some of the blackest, heaviest drift this side of Gruntsplatter, Troum, Lull, Yen Pox, Melek-T
ha, Lustmord, and Megaptera. [...]"
(pro-printed CD-R, oversized sleeve, 8.00 €)
Light of Shipwreck - From The Idle Cylinders (Crucial Bliss)
Label info: "Light Of Shipwreck is a one-man band operated by Ben Fleury-Steiner, a Deleware-based drone artist and owner of the excellent Gears of Sand Recordings imprint, which has released discs from some of our favorite ambient/drone/drift artists including Encomiast, Cordell Klier, and Aidan Baker. It was actually through Aidan Baker that we found out about Ben's Light Of Shipwreck project; knowing that we're fanatics for "heavy ambient" sound, Light Of Shipwreck was recommended as something we should check out. At first expecting something more along the lines of the kind of floating ambient rumble that marks so much of my favorite Baker solo stuff, I was pleasantly surprised by how percussive the tracks I heard online from LOS were, the dense, ominous feedback drones and heavy rumbling ur-riffs floating freely over a mechanistic tribal-rhythm freakout. We ended up gettin
g in touch with Ben from Light Of Shipwreck and it turned out that he had a nearly hour-long disc that he wanted to have released through our Crucial Bliss imprint, and here we are: a three-track full length of rich, crushing power-ambient, titled From The Idle Cylinders, a reference to the American Objectivist poet George Oppen whose work is a consistent influence on Light Of Shipwreck's imagery, with huge slabs of resonant sheet metal shimmering in an ocean of heavenly feedback and reverberating guitar drone, and surges of droning tribal Krautrock percussion floating along with distorted ambient doom power chords and washed out vocal cord bliss, each track running upwards of 20 minutes in length. A totally breathtaking piece of music, like Steve Reich, Brian Eno, Can, and Earth swirled together into an austere, hypnotizing heavy-trance masterpiece. Aidan Baker - Exoskeleton Heart (Crucial Bliss)
Label info: "Following up his amazing Periodic disc that was issued through Crucial Bliss two years ago, acclaimed Toronto drone-guitarist Aidan Baker is back with Exoskeleton Heart, his newest entry into our ongoing Crucial Bliss series. And this 2-track, hour long excursion into deep feedback bliss is stunningly beautiful. Split into two halves, "Interior" and "Anterior", Baker once again taps into his visions of the bodycage using only his electric guitar, performed and recorded live; the result is an evocative feedback-heavy dronescape drifting with the gritty hum of the amplifier, layers of shimmering, chiming feedback, crushing distorted ambient dirge that borders on Sunn O)))-levels of sonic weight, and shafts of elegiac melody breaking through the stormclouds of Baker's cavernous rumbling like rays of sunlight. Aidan Baker is without question the North American counterpart to the Tu
etonic guitar drones of Troum, and Exoskeleton Heart delivers some of his most massive, meditative, crushing, and beautiful subterranean drift yet. Hell, the final 10 minutes of "Anterior" is without questions one of the most beautiful things we have ever presented through this label, an angelic glacial melody that builds inexorably into a wall of blissed out fuzz a la something you'd expect from Aidan's drone sludge band Nadja. Essential. [...]"
(pro-printed CD-R, oversized sleeve, 8.00 €)
Year of No Light - Nord (Crucial Blast)
Label info: "As part of our current plundering of the French art-metal underground, Crucial Blast presents the North American release of 'Nord', the colossal debut from French ensemble Year Of No Light that was originally released via the French label Radar Swarm in 2006. Year Of No Light bring an amazing set of songwriting chops to the 10 songs that make up 'Nord', a heavy, chugging metallic monster that channels both gloomy atmospherics reminiscent of The Cure, and crushing Neurosis-inspired dirgecore, heavy, raw, and lumbering, but at times extremely beautiful and epic. To us, YEAR OF NO LIGHT's Nord seems to orbit the guitar-heavy early 90's alt rock of bands like Swervedriver and Dinosaur Jr., The Cure and My Bloody Valentine, just as much as it draws from the arty, crushing metallic post-hardcore pioneered by Old Man Gloom and Neurosis. Sure, there are a ton of bands out there that touch upon
similar influences, but we can't think of anyone recently that has delivered an album in this style that is quite this catchy and well-written. Nord flows seamlessly between passages of ultra melodic rock and frenzied bursts of dissonant, crushing hardcore, to austere radiant guitar figures and gorgeous ambient drones, to massive doomy dirge metal, utterly gorgeous Loveless-esque melodic bliss, and some almost folksy, but unbelievably EPIC riffs, with powerful, strained vocals fighting through their wall of sound. Presented in a 4-panel gatefold case from Stumptown Printers, and featuring all new artwork."
(CD, cardboard digisleeve, 11.00 €)
Genghis Tron - Dead Mountain Mouth (Crucial Blast)
Label info: "Dead Mountain Mouth is the first full length album from GENGHIS TRON, and the follow-up to their imaginative debut EP, Cloak Of Love. Recorded at Godcity Studios with Kurt Ballou (Converge), Dead Mountain Mouth moves beyond the rapid-fire electro/grind genre-splicing of Cloak Of Love, and forms something more fluid and cohesive, an arcane union of digital dreams and brutal heaviness, where speedcore eruptions blossom from clouds of maximum beat-driven electronic bliss, and futuristic metal riffage seethes from your speakers. These ten gloriously-dense and triumphantly catchy jams soar through valleys of immense crush and alien vistas of 8-bit wizardry unlike anything you've heard before..."
(CD, clear jewel case, 11.00 €)
Silence & Strength - Le Divin Cagliostro (Eastern Front)
Neo-folk and ritualistic ambient from Israel inspired by the Grand Copht, the creator of the Egyptian Rite of Freemasonry. Reminiscent of a much more luminous version of Endura during the more ambient pieces, with the esoteric aspects of Freemasonry replacing Lovecraftian lore as the aesthetic foundation.
(CD, DVD case, 12.00 €)

Phragments - The Burning World (Eastern Front)
Second release from this Slovakian project, showcasing 7 tracks of bombastic orchestrations, martial atmospheres and industrial loops. While heavily influenced by a number of CMI acts (the Protagonist in particular) and not particularly distinguishable from its peers in this field, the album is rather well executed and efficient at what it sets out to achieve.
(CD, oversized 3-panel color sleeve, 12.00 €)

Silence & Strength - Opus Paracelsum (Eastern Front)
Label info: "Second full-length esoteric dark ambient/alchemical experimental opus full of weird sounds composed by Silence & Strength. The album is inspired by life and works of Philippus Aureolus Theophrastus Bombastus von Hohenheim, medieval Swiss physician, chemist, alchemist and one of the fathers of modern medicine who developed his own system of medicine and philosophy."
(CD, clear jewel case, 12.00 €)

Brutum Fulmen - Flesh Of The Moon (Crippled Intellect Productions)
First full-length CD from Brutum Fulmen, Jeff Wrench's main experimental sound project. While there is no shortage of sound artists who rely on field recordings for their material and delve into the often dessicated fields of musique concrète, few that I'm aware of have managed to turn them into such lush electro-acoustic compositions that actually warrant repeated listenings. The 10 tracks gathered here are carefully crafted from the sounds of old manual typewriters, hinges, metal, feedback, and other common and uncommon objects, and the booklet provides an extensive list of these sources which is always interesting to read as you listen to the end result. Consistently captivating.
(CD, clear jewel case, 12.00 €)
