Intravene - Flotation Toy Warning (Auf Abwegen)

Intravene is the collaborative project formed by Stephen Meixner (Contrastate, SRMeixner) and Steve Pittis (Band of Pain), and understandably enough this album incorporates elements of both individuals' acoustic domains. Field recordings, low-key drones and processed samples make up most of "Flotation Toy Warning" while some unexpected drum n' bass rhythms sneak their way in on rare occasions.

Invisible Front - Interferences And Time (Indie-ziert)

Appropriately subtitled "Kampf auf allen Frequenzen", the debut release by this Berlin-based unit chooses the radio as its key subject matter and explores its impact as the first major mass communication tool of the 20th century. As expected, this translates into samples of number stations, historical radio speeches and general shortwave chatter providing a backdrop for overdriven synthetic tones and crackling (yet controlled) noise. The less agitated moments bring to mind SRP's "Schriever Rundflugzeug Projekt" and other Membrum Debile Propaganda releases, but overall this album is much more abrasive than initially hinted at. A struggle on all frequencies indeed.

Iovae - Civilization (SNSE)

Sputtering, dense oscillator tones courtesy of Cincinnati-based Iovae (Ron Orovitz). 5 strangely catchy tracks of stressed, groaning buzzes and shifting high end fuzz. Pretty close to what a noisier, lo-fi COH would sound like in some regards, and definitely a nice discovery.

(CD, clear jewel case, textured sleeve paper, $13.00)

Irmologion - Dynatos (R.A.I.G.)

Electro-acoustic and ritualistic ambient with Orthodox thematic influences. A less sinister sermon than their previous self-titled album, but distilled from the same essence.

(CD, laced hard book folder with CD held inside a silk cloth, $19.00, last copy)

Ishai Adar - Beaufort Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Ak Duck)

Original soundtrack to "Beaufort", the 2007 Berlinale Film Festival Silver Bear winner for best director. "Beaufort" tells the story of the last group of IDF soldiers stationed in the South Lebanon outpost of the same name, prior to the evacuation of Israeli forces from the country in 2000.
Its soundtrack was composed by Israeli electronic artist Ishai Adar, who was previously involved in the experimental pop band "The Top-Hat Carriers". This is Adar's second motion picture soundtrack, and it's an ominous and pensive combination of processed digital sounds, warm ambient drones and sedated melodies. The press release suggests comparisons to Philip Jack, Biosphere & William Basinski, but this comes recommended to anyone looking for a great example of a subtle contemporary electronic score.

(CD, clear jewel case, $15.00)

It-Clings vs. Pneumatic Detach - The All Too Logical Descent Into Madness (Bugs Crawling out of People)

Spoken wordcore by It-Clings with pounding beats provided by Pneumatich Detach (Hive Records). Forget hearing faint voices inside your head, this is more like inviting a spiteful cynic with a megaphone to rant away to his heart's content from the comfort of your cranium. From lucid observations to over-the-top diatribes, there's thankfully enough black humor in here to keep it from turning into a neurotic moanfest. Also, you'll find out more about a new creative use for a spoon.
