Urna - Liber Lelle (Abgurd)

New 2008 release from long-active Italian artist Gianluca Martucci, with a number of past releases on Slaughter Productions. Gradually stepping away from its dank death industrial origins towards more ritualistic and luminous sounds over the years, Urna's new work further confirms this evolution with its compositions of serene acoustic ambient. Bells, cymbals, percussion, mandolin, balalaika, zither, accordion and flutes are woven together into a lustrous tapestry of sound dedicated to the life and death of Angela da Foligno, a Christian author, nun, and mystic. This could easily be a White Magic audio counterpart to Endura's "Black Eden".

Ishai Adar - Beaufort Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (Ak Duck)

Original soundtrack to "Beaufort", the 2007 Berlinale Film Festival Silver Bear winner for best director. "Beaufort" tells the story of the last group of IDF soldiers stationed in the South Lebanon outpost of the same name, prior to the evacuation of Israeli forces from the country in 2000.
Its soundtrack was composed by Israeli electronic artist Ishai Adar, who was previously involved in the experimental pop band "The Top-Hat Carriers". This is Adar's second motion picture soundtrack, and it's an ominous and pensive combination of processed digital sounds, warm ambient drones and sedated melodies. The press release suggests comparisons to Philip Jack, Biosphere & William Basinski, but this comes recommended to anyone looking for a great example of a subtle contemporary electronic score.

Recant - Subject to Affliction (Alarming Echo Beats)

Following his first full-length release on Fleshmadeword Records, Recant comes back with this EP in a different vein altogether. Gone are the cut-up rhythmical scrapings of "Gesture", here replaced by solid blocks of black ambient noise and junkyard atmospheres.

(CD-R in slim case, $5.00, on sale)

Stalnoy Pakt - Russia's Awakening (ALF Produkt)

First full-length CD from Alexander Lebedev-Frontov's other main project. While Linija Mass takes its aesthetic inspirations from Futurism and Soviet socialist realism, here the focus is shifted to militarism and nationalism, possibly in a manner related to the kind that is re-surfacing in Russia these days.
The sound is closer to ambient / martial industrial, but whereas most Western European projects in this field aim to infuse themselves with a sense of often overblown heroic bombast, Stalnoy Pakt's take on the genre turns marches into dehumanized machine-like processions and hymns into oppressive drones. Utterly bleak and captivating.

Thirdorgan - Lalahmania (Alienation)

Harsh noise from Japan's Thirdorgan. Although the titles seem to be inspired by pulp sci-fi movies ("The Incredible Melting Man"), this is unmoderated cut-up noise à la Government Alpha but with a more digital flavoring.

(CD-R, paper sleeve, $8.00)

LCEDP - De L'Utilité Des Convoyeurs (Angle Records)

Label info: "Coming from the speedcore/hardcore area of electronic music, Montreal’s LCEDP now delves into the world of rhythm’ n’ noise. His first CD creation, De L'Utilité Des Convoyeurs, takes up where urban exploration leaves off, and strives to return all that decaying matter... to life. A vibrant life, a powerful cry of joy, sadness, anger and bliss altogether. The machines are operational again, and they have a lot to say. LCEDP listened to their message and translated it into his elegant yet stormy and abrasive musical style. The result, you hold in your hands. Noisy and punchy and ultra rhythmic, with a few more introspective and abstract moments..."

Somnivore - Clergy Of Oneiros (Anima Arctica)

After coming across his collaboration CD-R with Kivelä, the search was on for more material from this new project from Finland. Clergy of Oneiros is the debut CD from Somnivore and has the same ethereal yet richly detailed sound as the above mentioned CD-R, with its meditative drones, ghostly vocals and slightly noisier percussive loops co-existing in a dim and distant state.
