Black To Comm - Rückwärts Backwards (Dekorder)

Black to Comm is the sound project headed by March Richter, head of German label Dekorder. His debut album relies mostly on processed shellac and vinyl loops, field recordings and assorted instruments (gamelan, organs, guitars, pianos among others) to forge 8 tracks of surreal ambience and crackling grooves. The carefully constructed arrangements make this more than just a patchwork of random sounds and the pieces even have a somewhat bittersweet and emotional quality to them. Last but not least, the tracks linger just long enough to leave an impression without wearing out their welcome.

Bocksholm - The Haunting Curse Of Skogs-Sara (Wrotycz Records)

Third release from this collaborative effort involving two Swedes named Peter Andersson, one being responsible for Raison d'Etre and the other for Deutsch Nepal. Somber industrial recollections of their seemingly grim home town of Boxholm, where the hypno-rhythmical aspect of Deutsch Nepal meets up with Raison d'Etre's haunted soundscapes.

Brutum Fulmen - Flesh Of The Moon (Crippled Intellect Productions)

First full-length CD from Brutum Fulmen, Jeff Wrench's main experimental sound project. While there is no shortage of sound artists who rely on field recordings for their material and delve into the often dessicated fields of musique concrète, few that I'm aware of have managed to turn them into such lush electro-acoustic compositions that actually warrant repeated listenings. The 10 tracks gathered here are carefully crafted from the sounds of old manual typewriters, hinges, metal, feedback, and other common and uncommon objects, and the booklet provides an extensive list of these sources which is always interesting to read as you listen to the end result. Consistently captivating.

(CD, clear jewel case, 12.00 € - to be repriced in USD)

Caesar Romero - The Grotesque Burlesque Revue (Fin de Siècle Media)

This 3" gathers selections from the soundtrack to the Grotesque Burlesque Revue, a deviant theatre show by the Dragon Ladies performance art company. The full press release on Fin de Siècle Media's site should be read for a more in-depth summary of this piece's history, but even without that knowledge this collection of creepy sea-shanties, nursery rhymes and warped, fairy-tale carnival music can be enjoyed by anyone with a pronounced taste for the bizarre.

(3" CD, to be restocked soon)

Cataclyst - Monuments Of A Rubicund Age (Zhelezobeton / Tantric Harmonies)

Label info: "A strange project that for a moment united Peter Andersson (raison d'Etre) and Johanna Rosenqvist (ex-Institut, Koeff) in the distant 1992. Cataclyst's music combines the melancholic beauty of early Raison D'Etre and Necrophorus, the harsh industrial rhythms of Institut and tribal-elements of another undeservingly forgotten project of Peter - Svasti-Ayanam... What makes this product differ from other works of the Swedish industrial scene is the atmosphere of remote fairy worlds in which you smoothly sink into while listening to "Monuments of a Rubicund Age". Peter and Johanna have woven an infinite labyrinth of mirages, walking through which will be a pleasant surprise for both the fans of ambient / experimental / industrial and more conservative gothic lovers. Chaos as Shelter - Dead Air Broadcasts (DTA Records)

One of the early releases by this Israeli dark ambient act. Relying on processed and sampled radio sounds as the basis for most of the tracks, "Dead Air Broadcasts" shows much more depth once you familiarize yourself with it. Might definitely appeal to Kryptogen Rundfunk fans.

Dawn Syndrome is an eight-track composition of ritual dark ambient crafted in the skillful way Chaos as Shelter is known for. [...] Dawn Syndrome was recorded at new jerusalem studios and Chaos As Shelter was supported by Vera Agnivolok , Helena Dorsht and an accidentally obtained presto home recorded vinyl disc."
