Irmologion - Dynatos (R.A.I.G.)

Electro-acoustic and ritualistic ambient with Orthodox thematic influences. A less sinister sermon than their previous self-titled album, but distilled from the same essence.

(CD, laced hard book folder with CD held inside a silk cloth, $19.00, last copy)

Lebenswelt - Lebenswelt (R.A.I.G.)

Introspective and somewhat cinematic dark ambient with industrial undertones from this Moscow trio. While nothing initially stands out to accustomed ears, the album's variety and efficiency make this the sort of release that will grow on you should you give it a chance.

(CD, cardboard folder with 6-page booklet, out of stock)

Womba - Evidence Of Letta (R.A.I.G.)

Industrial ambient collage from Tikhon S. Kubov, the person behind other RAIG-related projects such as Mux and Won James Won. Some of the material is a little reminiscent of the futurist audio constructions of Vetrophonia and Linija Mass, but Womba sets aside the mechanical fury and aesthetics of those projects for a lighter (and sometimes humorous) approach. Pleasantly comatose and confusing.

Maurizio Bianchi & Telepherique - The House Of Mourning (Radiotarab / Cold Current)

New collaboration release from these almost excessively prolific projects, this being the second one to be put out on CD if I'm not mistaken. The title pretty much indicates what the theme is here, and the mood is generally somber and meditative. On a side-note, the Greek Rembetica music and chants sampled by Telepherique on certain tracks sound amazingly close to some traditional Egyptian music.

Show of Exaggeration - Self-titled (Rectrix)

"A cosmic ambient passageway through aeons of spacetime. Ebbing tides of sonic conundrum, fading and waning military and ritual rhythms to convey a feeling of loss and eerie calm. A Synapscape/Centrozoon collaboration."

(CD in cardboard sleeve, $8.00, on sale, last copy)

The Hollowing / Marspiter - Habashira (Rectrix)

Split release with 4 tracks from the Hollowing and 3 from Marspiter. The former move from cavernous noise ambient to aggressive tribal pieces, while Marspiter sticks to a subterranean form of neoclassical with a restrained and buried sound suitable for the epic movies of yore. A nice combination that covers a fair amount of sonic ground.

Riz Ortolani - Cannibal Holocaust Original Soundtrack (Red Stream)

Much needed reedition of this soundtrack to Ruggero Deodato's brutal cinematic masterpiece from 1980. From the naively seductive theme track to the buzzing Moog pieces, everything is gathered here including the various disco, jazz and lounge-tinged tracks heard throughout the movie. There is a strong emotional aspect to this score, a disturbing sense of humanity that'll remind you of the perils of the Green Inferno.
Includes two bonus videos: the original movie trailer and a recent interview with Riz Ortolani.

(CD, digipak, $13.00)

Re-release of their 1995 album. Occult summonings and ritual processions for an inverted Eden. From mournful black ambient to more bombastic declamations of heresy.
