V.O.S. - Veil of Secrecy (Triumvirate)
Simple and efficient isolationist music from a Yen Pox member. Brooding synths and heavy reverberation may seem like overused staples of the genre, but this is how it's done in the best of scenarios.
(CD, clear jewel case, out of stock)
[ dark ambient ]
Geomatic - Control Agents (Triumvirate)
Underrated release that demonstrates skillful musical construction, mostly in the shape of subtle rhythms and mood-setting melodic passages.
(CD, clear jewel case, out of stock)
Citadel - Granite Sky (Triumvirate)
Final release on Triumvirate, featuring the new incarnation of Mitchell Altum's sonic endeavors. Picking up where Law left and moving on to a new domain, Granite Sky is a solemn and imposing record but with a more distant, detached mood than its predecessor. Mandatory listening for those that know their salt.
(CD, clear jewel case, $12.00)

Various Artists - A Selection Of Drones Past: Singles 1993-2000 (Tumult)
Compilation of select tracks from Drone Records' 7" vinyls, in a more digital-friendly format. Includes tracks from Maeror Tri, Alio Die, Inade, Aube, Klood, Vance Orchestra, Tarkatak, Toy Bizarre, Yen Pox and more.
(2CD, gatefold sleeve, out of stock)
Vetrophonia - Promzona (Ultra)
Second CD release from this collaborative project between the Russian activists responsible for ZGA and Linija Mass / Stalnoy Pakt. While somewhat more accessible than "Simultannostb", Promzona carries over much of the same elements but in a more refined form, resulting in what is possibly their best release yet. Oxygen-starved symphonic loops, field recordings, didgeridoos and metallic clangs form a soundtrack to a desolate world of slowly sinking tugboats and aborted construction sites.

Nick Soudnick - Akhe Music Vol. 5 Faust ³ (Ultra)
Produced as the soundtrack for the theatre performance of "Faust³" by Akhe, this work by Nick Soundnick seems him welding the industrial clamor of Vetrophonia to avant-garde classical music. Actual string and bass instruments are accompanied by metallic percussion and discreet electronic effects for a majestic result with a masterful sense of tension and release, with tracks ranging from high-cadence orchestrations to more restrained and atmospheric passages. Leagues above whatever similar attempts at this exercise have been made in the industrial scene.
(CD, multi-paneled sleeve with extensive booklet in Russian and English, $15.00)

Nick Soudnick - Pas de Trois (Ultra)
2008 release from Nick Soudnick, also known for his activities as ZGA and as one half of Vetrophonia. "Pas de Trois" was recorded during multiple live performances involving two dancers, and its tracks vary from structured dirge-like compositions with percussive metal that ZGA is known for to more atmospheric pieces that graft subterranean horns, creaking steel and heavily processed loops. A much noisier and less orchestrated experience than the "Akhe" releases.

Vetrophonia - Simultannostb (Ultra)
CD re-release of the early 1999 "Risveglio Di Una Citta / Futurogrammatika" tape with two extra tracks recorded in 2003. Urban din and mechanical cacophony forged into futurist compositions that bring to mind then easily supplant Vivenza's "Aérobruitisme Dynamique".

Nick Soudnick - Depot of Genius Delusions (Ultra)
New chapter in the series of soundtracks produced by Nick Soudnick for the Akhe theater group. Mechanized orchestral scores, ZGA-like bass plucks and percussive metal, mangled cello murmurs and countless other artifacts are used to construct this highly detailed and idiosyncratic work by one of the masters of the Russian experimental scene.

Shift - Unable To Abide The Silence Of The World (Unrest Productions)
First self-released CD album from this UK power electronics unit, partly inspired by Cormac McCarthy's "Blood Meridian". Rumbling, sizzling noise loops with loud bass and buried, barely audible vocals, somewhat reminiscent of DVT at times.
(CD, jewel case in slipcase, $16.00, last copy)
