Survival Unit - Murder For The Mission (Autarkeia)
First part of the Survival Unit retrospective releases on Autarkeia. This one includes material from the tape of the same name on Vemod, along with edited recordings from the live action in Paris at Therapie Auditive and finally the "Utan Fana" tracks. Toxic, lo-fi power electronics brimming with hatred for the modern world, right up there with "Fentanyl Martyrs" in terms of crude ferocity. The rats are coming! The werewolves are here!

Survival Unit - Tied Down For Survival (Autarkeia)
Second volume of retrospective material from Sweden's Survival Unit. Even dead, its corpse lunges again at this world with this collection of violent declamations, rambling conspiracies and ideological firebombs. The selections gathered here sustain an exhausting atmosphere of struggle and confusion, one that perfectly matches the current global context. The noisy assaults are tempered by a sense of doom and futility on tracks such as "Barbed Wire and Barbiturates" and "No Gold, Only Stones", showing hints of the pharmacological power electronics of the yet unborn Alfarmania.

Survival Unit - Fentanyl Martyrs (Autarkeia)
Final studio release from post-mortem / power electronics purveyor Survival Unit, based in Sundsvall, Sweden. Focalizing its attention on the blood-soaked events of the Chechnyan war, "Fentanyl Martyrs" takes you to one of the world's most annihilated conflict zones for the grand tour. Guerrilla warfare, mass graves and merciless tactics are some of the offerings on this soot-covered battlefield and its related theaters, as conveyed by pilfered radio communications, crude and relentless noise and barked sermons of dehumanization. A gruesome assessment that now serves as a fitting epitaph to the conflict's "official" end as of April 2009.

The Giallos Flame - The Giallos Flame (Baphomet Records)
Ignore the awfully drawn cover artwork, the Giallos Flame is the essential modern-day heir to the jazzy prog rock of Goblin and the synth-heavy Fabio Frizzi soundtracks that made their mark on so many Italian horror soundtracks of the late 70's. Sleazy, funky and and just so remarkably efficient at capturing that certain vibe.

Nekyia - Purgatory As The Serpent Domain (Beast of Prey)
Second release from this Polish band, whose debut album came out on Fluttering Dragon. This one comes across as a darkwave / rhythmic industrial hybrid with some ambient elements and well performed vocals. Think Sanctum but minus the coarse screaming. Nicely done and boasts a well-designed 3-panel sleeve with two inserts.

Moljebka Pulse / Horologium - Kaukasus (Beast of Prey)
Collaboration release between Moljebka Pulse and Horologium, inspired and devoted to the region where Europe and Asia meet and where ancestral grudges carry on to this day. Meditative drones and rumbling loops try to convey the majesty and richness of the region, but there are unfortunately no Azeri folk songs to be found here.

Storm of Capricorn / Paranoia Inducta - Jama (Beast of Prey)
Label info: "Jama is a poem written by the Croatian poet, resistance member and revolutionary Ivan Goran Kovacic, who was murdered in 1943 by opportunists and readers upset with his poems full of shocking scenes of Croatian perpetrations.
Jama is a story and CD devoted to the tragedy of the Balkan world, the dark history enriched by the beauty of its folklore. French project Storm of Capricorn presents dark martial ambient and Polish project Paranoia Inducta contribute music full of folklore."

Nekyia - Slowmotion Downhells (Beast of Prey)
Fourth Nekyia album, with 6 long tracks that add up to around 52 minutes. Mid-paced ritualistic rhythms and darkwave-style vocals put together over dark ambient backdrops, with a less electro sound than the previous full-length. The rhythms are much more subdued, giving more breathing room to the instruments and dark ambient undertones. This is the normal edition.

Desolation Zone - L'Homme Machine (Beast of Prey)
"L'Homme Machine" is named after a book by French philosopher Julien Offray de La Mettrie, the founder of a radical form of materialism he named mechanism. The six tracks presented here live up to this creed by delivering a solid 38 minutes of cadenced factory noises, mechanical rhythms and instructions barked over the factory's PA systems, like a more electronic and rhythmical version of some Linija Mass or Genetic Transmission tracks. Great stuff.

Genetic Transmission - Ascetic (Beast of Prey)
New album from this absurdly overlooked Polish industrial pioneer, whose previous work includes many self-releases on Die Schöne Blumen Musik Werk and activities in projects such as ?adne Kwiatki, Godzilla and Hated Bruit Kollectiv. "Ascetic" is just as abstract and demanding as one would expect, with its brittle electro-acoustic textures slithering and scraping through three 20-min tracks. An acquired taste for some, but those interested in Niellerade Fallibilisthorstar and modern futurism shouldn't ignore this one.
