Toyz-z-z

Bardoseneticcube - Toyz-z-z (Black Arts Productions)

5 untitled tracks based on the theme of "the childhoods of sexual maniacs", which translates sonically into saturated drones layered with warbled kids' voices, nursery rhymes and music-box melodies. Suitably creepy photography by fellow St. Petersburg madman Hladna.

(CD-R, slim DVD case with insert, out of stock)

Altar of Flies - Dead Air, Broken Wings (BlackGapDeathTrap Records)

CD-R re-release of the tape with an extra track. Altar of Flies is Mattias Gustafsson from Sweden, and this project is one of those great surprises you run into and feel like sharing with whoever is actually reading this. This is tense, sputtering electronic sludge with industrial overtones done right, crafted into an organic beast with a life of its own. Limited to 50 copies, and we've only got two to spare.

Cold Turkey

[mp3 ] [ mp3 ]

Poochlatz - Cold Turkey (BlackGapDeathTrap Records)

Poochlatz is the doom-noise-drone project of Israeli noiseniks Rani Zager (Vultures, Lietterschpich) and Maor Appelbaum (Screening, Vultures, and a number of releases under his own name). With one full-length CD under their belts, they're back with this live recording of their more doom metal influenced material. This is definitely a nice companion release to the Lietterschpich CD, as it share some of the same rough howled vocals but with a more sedated doom influence added to the whole thing.

When Spiders Learn To Fly

Wilt - When Spiders Learn To Fly (By Blade Records)

Along with "Blackenvelope", this is one of Wilt's finest efforts so far and evokes the serenity of a chemically-induced coma. In James Keeler's own words: "8 tracks of depressed analog torture and smoldering smokestacks of filthy black clouds, live improvised, composed, scarecrow dark noise".

Blood of Green Colour

Bardoseneticcube - Blood of Green Colour (By Blade Records)

New 2005 release from this veteran St Petersburg dark ambient project. 8 untitled tracks of rumbling drones, soaring oscillations and corroded melodic patterns. Limited to 150 copies.

A Crown Of Amaranth - Love Lies Bleeding (Crucial Bliss)

Label info: "Malevolent plunder ambient and knife-wielding nocturnal electronics. Heavily saturated field recordings of inter-dimensional beasts breaking through to this world. Mega sinister drones from deep space freighter missions. Sad chorals emerge from circuit wars. Awesome epic planet-destroying guitar instrumentals. A CROWN OF AMARANTH follows up the Manuscript/Winterupt release on Audio Savant with this eerie and surreal noise/ambient/post-rock/mutant electronica sound exploration."

Dead Lights Red Sky

Fulci - Dead Lights Red Sky (Crucial Bliss)

Label info: "The first recorded offering from twilight-psyche dronerock duo FULCI. Deep, rumbling, and eternal speaker-buzz worship, wrapped around lumbering riffs drunk on cough syrup and shimmering distortion overload. Howling feedback mantras repeated ad infinitum. Major key rustic lullabies are reduced to primal string scraping drones that climb over mountains of echoing hum. Intensely melodic and repetitious, like SKULLFLOWER covering EARTH's 2 in an old, empty farmhouse. FULCI is Eric Crowe (formerly of Social Infestation, currently of Marax) and Adam Wright. [...]"

Havens

Encomiast - Havens (Crucial Bliss)

Label info: "This disc contains three exquisite new driftworks from ENCOMIAST, entitled Havens. Formed from vaporous clouds of guitar, gamelan, shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute), violin, vina, voice, flute, and field recordings, Ross Hagen and Megan Garland have stretched these sounds into infinite ribbons of metallic shimmer, twisting and swirling into gorgeous hum. The three tracks on this disc are extended works that range from eleven to twenty-five minutes in length, and drifts within the angelic regions between Andrew Chalk's minimalist explorations, the dream music of Troum (and their predecessor, Maeror Tri), and the bleary melodic smear of My Bloody Valentine. Havens distills the bliss of deep dreams and early morning haze into captured hymns, and is one of ENCOMIAST's finest drone offerings to date."

Exoskeleton Heart

[mp3 ] [ mp3 ]

Aidan Baker - Exoskeleton Heart (Crucial Bliss)

Label info: "Following up his amazing Periodic disc that was issued through Crucial Bliss two years ago, acclaimed Toronto drone-guitarist Aidan Baker is back with Exoskeleton Heart, his newest entry into our ongoing Crucial Bliss series. And this 2-track, hour long excursion into deep feedback bliss is stunningly beautiful. Split into two halves, "Interior" and "Anterior", Baker once again taps into his visions of the bodycage using only his electric guitar, performed and recorded live; the result is an evocative feedback-heavy dronescape drifting with the gritty hum of the amplifier, layers of shimmering, chiming feedback, crushing distorted ambient dirge that borders on Sunn O)))-levels of sonic weight, and shafts of elegiac melody breaking through the stormclouds of Baker's cavernous rumbling like rays of sunlight. Aidan Baker is without question the North American counterpart to the Tuetonic guitar drones of Troum, and Exoskeleton Heart delivers some of his most massive, meditative, crushing, and beautiful subterranean drift yet. Hell, the final 10 minutes of "Anterior" is without questions one of the most beautiful things we have ever presented through this label, an angelic glacial melody that builds inexorably into a wall of blissed out fuzz a la something you'd expect from Aidan's drone sludge band Nadja. Essential. [...]"

From The Idle Cylinders

Light of Shipwreck - From The Idle Cylinders (Crucial Bliss)

Label info: "Light Of Shipwreck is a one-man band operated by Ben Fleury-Steiner, a Deleware-based drone artist and owner of the excellent Gears of Sand Recordings imprint, which has released discs from some of our favorite ambient/drone/drift artists including Encomiast, Cordell Klier, and Aidan Baker. It was actually through Aidan Baker that we found out about Ben's Light Of Shipwreck project; knowing that we're fanatics for "heavy ambient" sound, Light Of Shipwreck was recommended as something we should check out. At first expecting something more along the lines of the kind of floating ambient rumble that marks so much of my favorite Baker solo stuff, I was pleasantly surprised by how percussive the tracks I heard online from LOS were, the dense, ominous feedback drones and heavy rumbling ur-riffs floating freely over a mechanistic tribal-rhythm freakout. We ended up getting in touch with Ben from Light Of Shipwreck and it turned out that he had a nearly hour-long disc that he wanted to have released through our Crucial Bliss imprint, and here we are: a three-track full length of rich, crushing power-ambient, titled From The Idle Cylinders, a reference to the American Objectivist poet George Oppen whose work is a consistent influence on Light Of Shipwreck's imagery, with huge slabs of resonant sheet metal shimmering in an ocean of heavenly feedback and reverberating guitar drone, and surges of droning tribal Krautrock percussion floating along with distorted ambient doom power chords and washed out vocal cord bliss, each track running upwards of 20 minutes in length. A totally breathtaking piece of music, like Steve Reich, Brian Eno, Can, and Earth swirled together into an austere, hypnotizing heavy-trance masterpiece. [...]"
