En Dag I Väntan På Livet

Mattias Frisk - En Dag I Väntan På Livet (Self-released)

Mattias Frisk is a graphic artist whose collaboration with fellow Swedes Altar of Flies and Gjalp was released not too long ago on Nil By Mouth. This 29-min debut solo release is a wonderfully strange collage of sputtering noise, acoustic pop music and bird songs. Overall, this is an imaginative piece of work that definitely warrants keeping an eye out his future releases. The presentation is equally unusual, as the CD-R comes inside a sealed envelope addressed to Mattias Frisk with a hand-written letter in Swedish and a color insert.

Ett Liv I Väntan På Döden

Mattias Frisk - Ett Liv I Väntan På Döden (Self-released)

Second part of what is announced as a trilogy of releases by Swedish artist Mattias Frisk, whose eerie and colorful paintings and collages are just as attention-worthy as his musical output.
Exploring the themes of "time, death and apathy", this second chapter shifts to slower and more dispiriting sounds, with gloomy piano melodies and ghostly drones pierced by brittle noise shards. Solemn and somber like it should be, this definitely comes highly recommended. Packaged like the first volume in an envelope with a hand-written letter in Swedish.

(CD-R in envelope, $8.00)

Was ist Overdose Kunst

[mp3 ] [ mp3 ] [ mp3 ]

Overdose Kunst - Was ist Overdose Kunst (Zhelezobeton)

Label info: "The Japanese duet Overdose Kunst exists since 2001 and records a strange sort of music which they call "schizopoetry". Rejection of stylistic norms in the name of sound-craft freedom, deconstruction and irrational re-assemblage of musical material - that's what stands behind this term. This approach allows them to keep a child's purity and frankness in musical perception with the ability to send an emotional charge without using settled compositional forms. This disc includes the most song-like tracks of the band: crookedly recorded guitars, voices emotionally singing some nonsense in a mixture of several languages, and reversed melodies. Fine and lyrical post-rock from Japanese experimental underground."

Sterile

Panicsville - Sterile (Nihilist)

This is one visit to the hospital that'll have you calling for a nurse in no time, only to regret it as soon as she walks in. Starting off with the appropriately titled "Flatline", the release shifts from sedated bouts of hazy creepiness to cut-up noise aneurysms. Musique concrete, field recordings, ambient and noise all become stainless-steel instruments in the hands of Panicsville, and right now it's time for your shot. Features an exclusive video from the "Stabbed in the Face" sessions by Chicago underground film-maker, Usama Alshaibi.

Perverse

Panicsville - Perverse (Liquid Death / Hello Pussy)

Released in 2004, "Perverse" is another stroll into the happily deranged world of Panicsville. It's a somewhat noisier affair than its direct parent "Sterile", but it does keep the latter's taste for twisted sonic collages, diseased atmospheres and pulsating electronic howls. this is like dumpster-diving into surreal nightmares, and what you'll scrounge up will leave you with a black-toothed grin.

Nevidimost

Shumy Rossii - Nevidimost (BioSonar Labirint)

Label info: "Shumy Rossii (aka Les Bruits Russes) is a unique project on Russian post-industrial scene. To create their music they don't use any instruments except for voices of their vocalists. The main method of sound-expressing is perfectly executed collage technique. This CD contains the recording of live show, being held in the city of Obninsk in April 2003."

O Roma O Morte!

[mp3 ] [ mp3 ]

Stalnoy Pakt - O Roma O Morte! (ALF Produkt)

Sights and sounds of Fascist Italy condensed into one 16-min long military-industrial collage of anthems, marches, cheering crowds and gramophone fuzz. Includes a 3-min video clip set to the tune of a reconstructed version of "Giovinezza". Best enjoyed with a fine glass of castor oil.

La Splendeur Géométrique / Urbanomania

T.A.U. - La Splendeur Géométrique / Urbanomania (ALF Produkt)

T.A.U. (Trans Aero Urbanizacija) is primarily known as a collaboration between Alexander Lebedev-Frontov and Kirill Rozhkov, but the latter's absence on this new release makes room for Igor Potsukailo of Bardoseneticcube, who steps in for all editing, processing and mixing tasks using sound sources provided by Lebedev-Frontov. The end result is a remarkable synthesis of their individual traits, Bardoseneticcube's surrealist strain twisting the metallic factory noises of Linija Mass into a vortex of steel and welding sparks.
Due to the hand-made nature of the sculpted packaging this is limited to 30 copies, of which there are only a few in stock.

(CD-R in painted / sculpted jewel case, to be restocked soon)

Pop Pressing

[mp3 ]

Ultra Milkmaids - Pop Pressing (Ant-Zen)

The latest release from the Milkmaids incorporates disembodied instruments, fragmented guitar melodies and their typical warm and lush sound. What sets Pop Pressing aside from many of their releases is its ability to keep you on your toes, interrupting a piece just as it was picking up and moving in an entirely different direction.

At Random Again

[mp3 ] [ mp3 ] [ mp3 ]

Vance Orchestra - At Random Again (Noctovision)

This is another one of those CDs meant to be played in shuffle mode, with the main longer tracks followed by a large number of shorter ones. The longer pieces are in the cut-up / experimental vein with lots of found sounds while the short tracks are mostly random goofy samples.

(CD, handmade collage sleeve with multi-panelled booklet, out of stock)
