Tapio Kotkavuori - Terra Hyperborea (Gemina Stella)
Label info: "Musically the artist himself describes Terra Hyperborea as "post-apocalyptic dark-ethno-ambient". Its semi-organic, semi-electric soundspheres are trance-inducing, almost hypnotic, varying from soft mood adjustments to more focused incantations and chants. Kotkavuori's main weapon of choice in this battle against silence is the didgeridoo, but tons of other instruments - such as vocals, rainsticks, shaman drums, coffee maker, synthesizers, kitchen knives etc. - have been used as well. All in all, these recordings create a shamanistic ambiance with a dark twist characteristic to the Left Hand Path. [...]"

Urna - Liber Lelle (Abgurd)
New 2008 release from long-active Italian artist Gianluca Martucci, with a number of past releases on Slaughter Productions. Gradually stepping away from its dank death industrial origins towards more ritualistic and luminous sounds over the years, Urna's new work further confirms this evolution with its compositions of serene acoustic ambient. Bells, cymbals, percussion, mandolin, balalaika, zither, accordion and flutes are woven together into a lustrous tapestry of sound dedicated to the life and death of Angela da Foligno, a Christian author, nun, and mystic. This could easily be a White Magic audio counterpart to Endura's "Black Eden".

Velehentor / Vishudha Kali / Closing The Eternity - Ishopanishad (Vegvisir)
'Ishopanishad' brings together three ritual ambient projects from Russia for what is potentially one of their strongest releases altogether. Inspired by the vedic texts of the Isha Upanishad, the 3 tracks each convey a different stage of the rite. No need for additional wordiness here, this is simply one of the most compelling efforts in this type of music so far.
(CD, folded digisleeve, $14.00, last copy)

Vresnit - Tunvet (Vegvisir)
New album by the head of the Vetvei label, known for its solid roster of shamanistic ambient releases. The 36-min track presented here delves into the same nocturnal and wooded atmospheres explored in his collaborations with Kshatriy and Hladna, where every creak, rustle and echo in the mist conveys the primal forces of nature.
(CD, 6-sided digisleeve, to be restocked soon)

Vresnit & Kshatriy - TaeT (Vetvei)
One single 48 min piece of primordial ambient that merges field recordings, woodwinds, strings, bird songs, voices, tape noises and electronics into a shamanistic haze of ritual drone. Absolutely mandatory for listeners of Lunar Abyss Deus Organum and Halo Manash.
(CD, 7"-sized oversized 6-panel cardboard sleeve, to be restocked soon)

Zoät·Aon - Star Autopsy (Aural Hypnox)
With a handful of releases, Aural Hypnox have established themselves as a source for high-quality innovative output in the saturated field of dark ambient, and these releases aren't shy when it comes to moving into new territories.
Zoät-Aon's debut release confirms this with a rich and dynamic sound that could be better described as field recordings on alien planets. Floating above the stratosphere at times, zooming in on the growling fauna roaming the surface at others, the 9 tracks here have an organic, living quality to them that warrants repeated listening sessions for amateur exobiologists of the mind.

Zoät·Aon - The Triplex Bestial (Aural Hypnox)
While tempted to reuse the press release, the Triplex Bestial is of such ferocious and arcane beauty that it deserves at the very least a write-up of its own. Zoät·Aon's first album brought out the cries of alien landscapes, but this one evokes an alchemy of earthly and cosmic origins, with familiar sounds punctuated by unnameable howls. The entire album radiates the primal energy of starlit rituals, ancestral forces and fear-stricken animals. It's going to be hard to out-do this.
