Romanticismo Oltranzista

Ait! - Romanticismo Oltranzista (Punch Records)

Label info: "Ladies and Gentlemen: Mr. AIT! is back at last to reveal himself with a new kinky show for those of you having lost their heart in a dark Italian discotheque, some thirty years ago.
With a couple of hard-boiled songs and a boxful of extremist love letters this obscure erotique one man orchestra gets its stylish fists right into the face of today's fashion kids. Too strong to be pussy. Too pussy to be romantic. A bizarre cup of circus fun served in a Jess Franco ballet dance through hell.
Remember the mirrorballs and watch this whole unique striptease from lounge to funk to rock'n'punk. Everything in here, more than a spicy cocktail. All shaken not stirred. A punch of its own!"

(CD, digipak with 28-page booklet, to be restocked soon)

Heartstrings

Contagious Orgasm / Government Alpha - Heartstrings (SSSM)

Third recent collaboration release on Contagious Orgasm's home label, this time with Yasutoshi Yoshida of Government Alpha who's been responsible for the great collage artwork on all these CDs. Over these 12 tracks, Government Alpha's screeching blasts of white-hot electronic noise are cut-up and mixed in with Contagious Orgasm's industrial rhythms, off-beat collages and found sounds. Surreal, unusual and highly listenable.

Styx

Cyclotimia - Styx (Zhelezobeton)

Label info: "Zhelezobeton in cooperation with the Voronezh label Shadowplay and the Moscow label Monopoly Records presents the new 7th full-length album from the masters of "stock market industrial". "Styx" is the most mainstream-oriented work in the Cyclotimia discography. The music here is free of experimental and academic explorations traditional for the band; here the emphasis is made on the rhythmical component. Inexorable like an economic recession and steadfast like a financial indicator chart, eleven compositions depict the sickly technological reality of the planet wrapped by networks of global capital, media glamour and ideological obsessions.

Recommended to fans of Skinny Puppy, Clock DVA, Laibach (of the "Das Kapital" period), Front Line Assembly.".

L'Homme Machine

Desolation Zone - L'Homme Machine (Beast of Prey)

"L'Homme Machine" is named after a book by French philosopher Julien Offray de La Mettrie, the founder of a radical form of materialism he named mechanism. The six tracks presented here live up to this creed by delivering a solid 38 minutes of cadenced factory noises, mechanical rhythms and instructions barked over the factory's PA systems, like a more electronic and rhythmical version of some Linija Mass or Genetic Transmission tracks. Great stuff.

Broken Sounds of a Dying Culture

Frozen Faces - Broken Sounds of a Dying Culture (Wrotycz Records)

Re-release of the 1997 LP by this Deutsch Nepal side-project, along with the two tracks from the "Religion of Hate" 7". While the hypnotic loops of its immediate parent are carried over, this is a much cruder affair, with no room for ornamental effects or intricate structuring. This is stripped-down blunt-as-bones rhythms repeating themselves with mantra-like insistence. Rewarding in the right state of mind, utterly alienating in other circumstances.

Strike

Job Karma - Strike (Ars Benevola Mater)

Sometimes when doing trades, you end up regretting not having taken more copies of a certain release which turns out to be a great pick. This is one of those cases. Job Karma is a Polish duo with a number of releases on Amplexus and ABM under their belt, and "Strike" is their 4th CD so far. Its mix of loop-based industrial, ritualistic ambient and analog synthesizers is impressive and highly enjoyable, and the closest reference I can think of is Internal Fusion but with a much stronger technological sound. The album also includes a great cover of Kraftwerk's "Radioactivity".
