Alexander Lebedev-Frontov - Bio Versus Mechano (ALF Produkt)
Recordings from 1988-1992 of pure mechanical bliss. Collages of machine noise, cut-up low-resolution audio artefacts and sputtering vocal snippets. A perfect follow-up to the "Chaos" and "Cosmos" re-releases.

Alexei Boris / Jeff Surak - Ulitsa Novatorov (Locus of Assemblage)
Label info: "Alexei Borisov is the godfather of Russian experimental music. Active since the early 1980s, Borisov was the driving force behind many new wave, industrial, electronica bands such as Tsentr, Nochnoi Prospekt, F.R.U.I.T.S. and Vogla. Borisov has performed to packed stadiums to underground clubs in the former Soviet Union, and is a regular participant in many European festivals. On this new release on Locus of the Assemblage Borisov is joined by Surak (Violet, v., -1348- etc), creating post industrial compositions, that are thick, rhythmic and abstract".

Bocksholm - The Haunting Curse Of Skogs-Sara (Wrotycz Records)
Third release from this collaborative effort involving two Swedes named Peter Andersson, one being responsible for Raison d'Etre and the other for Deutsch Nepal. Somber industrial recollections of their seemingly grim home town of Boxholm, where the hypno-rhythmical aspect of Deutsch Nepal meets up with Raison d'Etre's haunted soundscapes.
(CD, A5 color sleeve, $14.00, last copy)

Citadel - Granite Sky (Triumvirate)
Final release on Triumvirate, featuring the new incarnation of Mitchell Altum's sonic endeavors. Picking up where Law left and moving on to a new domain, Granite Sky is a solemn and imposing record but with a more distant, detached mood than its predecessor. Mandatory listening for those that know their salt.

Frank Rothkamm - Moers Works (1982 - 1984) (Monochrome Vision)
Old-school industrial experimentations recorded between 1982 and 1984 by Frank Rothkamm, a professionally trained musician who used to release his material on his own Flux Records label.
Somewhere between tape collage, free-form ambient noise and chamber music, at times reminiscent of some instrumental Maria Zerfall tracks.

Grim - The Past Is Still In Current Use (Drag & Drop Industrial)
Grim is the project led by Jun Konagaya, co-founder of the early cult industrial duo White Hospital with Tomo Kuwahara, who went on to form the ritual ambient project Vasilisk. This compilation conveniently assembles all past Grim releases (Amaterasu 7", Folk Music LP and Message mLP) along with a track released as Howling of Himalaya on UPD's "Constructive Music 1990". The first two releases are great examples of early 80's industrial, with the perfect dosage of metal percussions, squalid electronics and shouted vocals. The "Message" mLP material takes a drastically different turn for eerie and clinically altered folk music. Required listening.

Haus Arafna - Blut (Galakthorrö)
Label info: "Beloved for its rugged charm and its extraordinary harshness, the first Haus Arafna album has been an industrial classic for some considerable time. Since 1995 the original limited edition could only be obtained at horrendous collectors' prices, and ran the risk like many other Galakthorrö presentations of falling foul of the Bootleggers (Help! The Russians are coming!) and now in 2006 it has finally been re-issued, digitally re-mastered with three brilliant extra bonus tracks. The new edition is rounded off visually by a 24 page booklet containing numerous black and white photoplates illustrating the bloody subject matter."

Haus Arafna - You (Galakthorrö)
Seven long years after "Butterfly" Haus Arafna return with another finely crafted piece of angst-pop. Possibly their most elaborate album so far, "You" takes a syncretic approach to the post-industrial styles that have manifested themselves in their work, adding steel-sourced metallic noises and klangs to the sound and integrating influences from the duo's twin project November Növelet. A monument of intimately miserable and misanthropic Arafna Cultura.

Haus Arafna - New York Rhapsody (Galakthorrö)
Haus Arafna being commissioned to write a soundtrack album for a New York fashion show seems about as comically mismatched an idea as the Grey Wolves headlining a Christian rock festival, but "New York Rhapsody" dismisses any initial apprehensions rather quickly. While the aggressiveness has definitely been dialed down to some extent to emphasize the more textural and constructed aspects, the ingredients - electricity-charged static, dour tones and metallic noises - are consistent with what you'd expect from the current sound of Haus Arafna. Secondly, the album's theme hardly constrains it musically or lyrically, and this isn't some dull scholastic effort with some tacked-on references to the catwalk or what have you. Ultimately little aside from the photos by Nikolay Saveliev (Levoi Pravoi) and the blurbs tie this album to fashion, and if anything it could be argued that it's more about New York at large ("45 Minutes in New York", "Ground Zero"). Overall, a very nice little surprise.
