Cataclyst - Monuments Of A Rubicund Age (Zhelezobeton / Tantric Harmonies)

Label info: "A strange project that for a moment united Peter Andersson (raison d'Etre) and Johanna Rosenqvist (ex-Institut, Koeff) in the distant 1992. Cataclyst's music combines the melancholic beauty of early Raison D'Etre and Necrophorus, the harsh industrial rhythms of Institut and tribal-elements of another undeservingly forgotten project of Peter - Svasti-Ayanam... What makes this product differ from other works of the Swedish industrial scene is the atmosphere of remote fairy worlds in which you smoothly sink into while listening to "Monuments of a Rubicund Age". Peter and Johanna have woven an infinite labyrinth of mirages, walking through which will be a pleasant surprise for both the fans of ambient / experimental / industrial and more conservative gothic lovers. Chaos as Shelter - Dawn Syndrome (Topheth Prophet)

Label info: "Recorded in 2001 and dedicated to the end of Kali Yuga, the age of iron, which is the final and most negative of four evolutionary Yugic cycles, the end of the world, and the dawn of a new golden age - Sataya Yuga (the age of purity). Dawn Syndrome is an eight-track composition of ritual dark ambient crafted in the skillful way Chaos as Shelter is known for. [...] Dawn Syndrome was recorded at new jerusalem studios and Chaos As Shelter was supported by Vera Agnivolok , Helena Dorsht and an accidentally obtained presto home recorded vinyl disc."

Cloama & Blutleuchte - From Wasteland Mausoleums (New Old Sentinel)

Stunning collaboration release between those two Finnish projects. Cloama's lurch towards more experimental sounds from its power electronics / noise beginnings is further emphasized by Die Blutleuchte's contributions, and this release effortlessly shifts from post-apocalyptic mantras to doom jazz dirges, with distorted guitar melodies and bleak atmospheres thrown in between. Scrapyard shamanism at its best. On a side-note, be sure to also look into Die Blutleuchte's "Rus", a sonic overview of Russian military history.

Contemplatron - Antarabhava / The Six Realms (Wrotycz Records)

Label info: "The Sanskrit word "Antarabhăva" means "the intermediate state" and in particular refers to the state between death and the moment of the next birth. This is the sonic journey of the soul wandering through the nooks of other worlds. The second part describes the six realms which, according to the Buddhist tradition, symbolize six destructive emotions: ignorance, hatred, enslaving desire, jealousy, pride and greed. [...]"

Contemplatron - Delog (Wrotycz Records)

Sophomore release from this Polish dark ambient project strongly influenced by Tibetan Buddhism. The Tibetan word Delog refers to one who has crossed the threshold of death and returned to tell about it. 45 minutes of serene compositions and ritualistic instrumentations, with an overall tone that would fit somewhere between Exotoendo and Herbst9.

Désaccord Majeur - La Neuvième Heure (Taalem)

Label info: "[...] Just like Internal Fusion, Désaccord Majeur creates long haunting ambient tracks with of course an ethnic and ritual touch... Less dark maybe, his music sometimes includes some more electronic sounds that could remind some em:t releases (Woob especially). Pure clear ritual ethno-ambient music."

Lunar Abyss Deus Organum - Brusnika (Drone Records)

Shamanistic ethno-ambient from the ever prolific Evgueny Savenko, responsible for the various incarnations of the Lunar Abyss projects, Ritualnaya Bioingeneria, and the BioSonar label. The two tracks here gather the sound of crackling fire, warm bass drones and distant animal cries for a particularly organic type of ambient. Pick up their CD on Chimaera while you're at it.

Rrupt - Traverser (Egone)

Stunning ethno-industrial from this obscure and sadly overlooked French project. Inspired by Lionel Tran's novel "Traverser du Désert" and involving a number of other artistic contributions such as the calligraphy of Thomas Foucher and the photography of Jean-Marie Arnouil, "Traverser" is a beautifully presented journey across a scorched desert where daytime mirages cede only to the night's icy winds.
