Recycle your Ears (by Nicolas, October 17, 2000)

"Animosity", the debut album by Seda E Marg is one of the first releases of the french Mechanoise Labs label, and the signs that things are starting to move in this country. With this CD-R, this band and label offer a very interesting and promising album of noisy industrial.

A mix between violent rhythmic noise (Eisengrau) and slowler industrial (Mental Destruction); "Animosity" is for sure violent and definitely something that carries anger and aggression. Very percussive and loud ("Detranquilizer" reminds a lot of Winterkälte, in that sense), Seda E Marg's sound is full of grinds and deep beats, everything being really well recorded and mastered.

Creating a suffocating atmosphere by this combination of shorts burst of saturation, Seda E Marg is a really promising band that has good ideas and talents. Acting in the most industrial part of the rhythmic noise section, this could be interesting for any Cold Meat Industry or Hand fanatics. Moreover, the sound of this CD-R is really better than the average demo's, and I would strongly recommend checking out "Animosity". And fast, since it's limited to only 100 hand-numbered copies. A very nice surprise for noise freaks.

D-Side (by Stéphane Courtois, November 2000)

Toronto Industrial Kollective (by Squid, January 2001)

Seda E Marg is angry at someone, or perhaps, everyone. Animosity is a brutal assault on the senses, a more extreme version of noise than most people could handle. The beats are irregular at times, mixed with static and other unearthly, unholy sounds. In short, Animosity will not be making onto Billboard's top 50 any time soon, nor will it be make in into clubs, or onto very many people's stereo's. But something this harsh, this angry, can't become popular culture, not even in a crazy fucked up world like this one. Most people need their music to be calming; People need their music to be reassuring that everything is alright, and no matter how it may really seem, someone is in control, and that those people have our best interests at heart.

I don't see Seda E Marg having such an outlook. The desire to please, to settle for the simplest way out, is not what they have in mind. I love noise and yet, at times, even I am put on edge. Seda E Marg is often too much, even for me. Perhaps its even too much for them. But this, I purpose, is maybe the purpose of the music. And this is perhaps what we all need a bit of.

Animosity is a limit edition release for those select few crazy mother fuckers who absolutely need sensory overload.

Wet-Works Electrozine (by Gunhed, December 2001)

If you thought that Ant-Zen and Hymen were the only labels cranking out quality power noise, then think again. Mechanoise Labs is a new label exploring power electronics and Seda E Marg's "Animosity" is a very strong release for this upcoming label.

The album opens up with a chaotic noise piece entitled "Shrapnel" that is overflowing with static and distortion. Underlying the chaotic noise is a dim drum rhythm that drives the track along. Tracks like "Our Empire" and "Detranquilizer" reminded me a lot of Winterkalte, while others like the track "Dormant" remind me of the type of style of Converter, which is a huge compliment since both of those bands rank a the top of the power-noise genre.

This is pure industrial music. Play it loud, play it often, and order it from a Mechanoise Labs.

LD-50 (by damage, April 2002)

Seda E Marg is music made for combat. Heavily distorted harsh breakbeats slip into white noise generators - it's a proof enough that this project would fit into a noise fest, a gabber party, a battlefield, an FPS arena, practically anywhere where kindness is not a criteria. And, this is all well like this.

I could compare this material to Hypnoskull if it were more minimalistic and if it would vary only one drumloop but any track off Animosity is capable of far more things. *stompy stompy stomp stomp*, this would be the reaction of a well-behaved US rivethead, over 150 BPM and a decent amount of distortion people simply forget their manners and their sense of time. My favourite track will be Detranquilizer, subtitled, when Molly fights the Yakuza assassin on the lethal ground of the postmodern condition.

Mom, I wish I was born a 909 bassdrum distorted to pieces.

Burning Emptiness (by ddn, November 2002)

So you really thought them ant-zen crew were the most terrorist rhythm activists one could find. Maybe you thought their stuff was oh-so brutal. So now you just send the children to bed and we're gonna talk about being brutal with Mechanoise Labs productions. Compared to this, The whole tribe of industrial strength techno or whatever silly name it's called again is as brutal as Kylie Minogue's latest single-they're not naked in their videoclips so they're maybe (a little) more valuable than the cocaine-driven pornpopstar. Don't get me wrong, though, this is not just another Merzbow-wannabe (now that computers made it so easy, there's not enough room for their records in them huge green plastic rubbish containers down the street). It's good music, but it's harsh good music. You got some quiet moments, but those are LOUD quiet moments. Pretty good.
